Life Lessons The Lion King Taught Me

Judging by the amount of times I have watched The Lion King, you would think that I would've mastered the beginning of "Circle of Life" by now. (No, the lyrics are not gibberish, the words are actually "Nants ingonyama bagithi Baba"). Even though I can't tell you how to pronounce that, I can tell you a few life lessons that The Lion King has taught me.

Let go of the past.

"The past can hurt, but you can either run for it, or learn from it." There is no changing what happened, but you can learn and benefit from past experiences. It is often the things of the past that help us grow. Accept the past, and stop dwelling on "what could have been."

Stop worrying.

"Sometimes bad things happen and there's nothing you can do about it. So why worry?" Worrying about what you can't control will only cause unneeded stress. Focusing on the present is the best way to live. Whatever is meant to be, will be. Stay positive.

Always remember who you are.

Stay true to yourself, and always remember where you came from. Don't live life trying to please others, and never give in to their negative opinions about your lifestyle.

No matter how much time you spend apart, a true friend will pick up right where you left off.

If someone is meant to be in your life, you shouldn't have to fight to make them stay. People come and go, but true friends will stick by your side no matter what. They forgive you for your mistakes, and accept your flaws.

Trust wisely.

Sometimes it is the ones we love who will hurt us the most. Be cautious of who you trust, and don't let down your guard too quickly. Always believe nothing of what you hear, and only half of what you see. Different perceptions can flaw our best views.

Change is good.

New experiences can bring out the best in us. You never know what will happen when you step outside of your comfort zone. Change is good, but it is not easy.

Hakuna Matata!

"It means no worries, for the rest of your days". Eliminate as much stress in your life as possible. Always do what makes you happy, and never let anyone or anything compromise your inner peace.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
