With "The Lion King" being released in June 1994, I was nearly two years old. That's crazy to think about! I loved this movie from the moment that I saw it. I still find myself watching this movie or even just listening to the soundtrack. I can't help rocking my head back and forth when listening to "I Just Can't Wait to Be King." There were many creative and amazing aspects to the movie that other movies had not explored. That being said, in honor of "The Lion King" being released from the Disney Vault, here are some fun facts regarding one of the best Disney movies ever!

1. "King of the Jungle" was the original title for "The Lion King." Disney changed the name after learning that lions don’t live in the jungle.

2. Sean Connery was considered for the voice of Mufasa, while Eddie Murphy was almost offered the role of Timon.

3. James Earl Jones who voiced Mufasa and Madge Sinclair who voices Sarabi were also the king and queen in "Coming to America."

4. The wildebeest stampede scene, which was two and a half minutes long, took around three years to be completed.

5. Pumbaa was the first Disney character to ever pass gas on screen.

6. It’s believed that the “Be Prepared” scene was inspired by the image of the Nazis marching while Adolf Hitler was on a podium.

7. When you hear the character’s roar in "The Lion King," you aren’t hearing lions. You are really hearing tigers. The creators thought the roar from the lion was not loud enough.

8. Scar and Mufasa were not originally related. The writers thought making them brothers would create a more interesting and engaging story.

9. “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” was almost cut from "The Lion King." Elton John pushed for the song to stay in the movie. Luckily, Disney listened.

10. Timon and Pumbaa were originally supposed to perform the song “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.”

11. Jon Bon Jovi’s hair was supposedly the inspiration for Simba as an adult.

12. Scar is the only lion to always have his claws showing throughout the movie.

13. A hyena biologist sued Disney for portraying the hyenas as villains. The biologist believed that the movie created a negative image for the hyenas.

14. One of the bugs that Timon pulls out of a knothole during Hakuna Matata is wearing Mickey Mouse ears.

15. When Mufasa explains to Simba that the stars are old kings, the constellation of Leo can be seen in the sky.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine.
