Most college students work hard during their time at school. It doesn't matter where people go to school or how you know them, projects and campaigns or anything else that is making an impact on the community is worth finding out about. Being a student that has worked on many projects for the community and for school, I feel like it's fitting to highlight another project. One project that caught my attention within the last couple weeks is the LifeBulb project created by students at the University of Minnesota - Duluth.
LifeBulb is a self-sustaining ecosystem that is created completely from recycled materials. This self-sustaining ecosystem is a way to help us better our environment and allows for research to be done on how to better use recycled materials. Nowadays, you don't always see the younger generations taking care of the environment. This is a way to change that stereotype of being reckless and selfish. It's a way to give back. The team who created LifeBulb is partnered with Hinterland Trading and the Hartley Nature Center. Having these partnerships is an important step in the right direction in caring for the environment. Now that we know what LifeBulb's goal is, they are able to have a bigger impact.
Some might wonder what that means for the rest of us and how we can help. The creators of LifeBulb have invented a self-sustaining glass terrarium. If you're like me and you don't know what a terrarium is, no need to worry. Merriam-Webster defines a terrarium as a glass or plastic box that is used for growing plants indoors. LifeBulb has a terrarium that you are able to purchase, which brings an entirely new accomplishment to undergraduate student projects. Not only does this project give more knowledge about the environment, it gives back to the environment. 100 percent of the proceeds goes to the Hartley Nature Center.
Supporting other student projects, whether they are where you go to school or not, is an important part of student life. If you want to support this project, you can order a LifeBulb for $10 by emailing rudlo010@d.umn.edu or by calling 763-360-5223. If you're interested in learning more information or following along in the journey, the creators have set up a website as well as social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can find them at www.lifebulb7.myshopify.com and like them on Facebook at LifeBulb, follow them on Twitter and Instagram at LifeBulb7. Support your fellow classmates, we all work hard even when times are tough. You never know when ideas can become a reality.
