Life Without Music Is Not Life At All

There are so many different ways to express yourself, but for me music has always been my go to. Music is my muse, it helps me when no one else can. It can mellow me out and express emotions in the most pure way. It can have no words, but yet, still have a strong message.

Throughout my life, I have struggled a lot with anxiety and depression. Friends come and go and life gets super hard sometimes, but music is always there. There is a song for everything. There is a song for when you feel sad, mad, happy, in love, frustrated or just about anything.

There are so many different varieties of music: EDM, pop, rap, country, rock, heavy metal, R&B, etc. I have yet to meet one person who doesn't like any kind of music. If they don't, then they should immediately seek professional help. (OK I realize this was over the top, but c'mon, are you even human if you don't like music at all?)

Music is also timeless, sure some tunes may sound the same but there is no song that is exactly like the other. Much like a fingerprint, music and songs aren't exactly the same. It depends on the person writing the music, each writer has their own style and ways to create songs.

Writing has always been an outlet for people everywhere to get their feelings out. Lyrics are much like poems when you think about it. Lyrics can be written about anything, there is no right or wrong thing to write about. The words in songs are raw and real. They are relatable to listener, which is another reason that music is super appealing.

Dancing is a really fun way to express yourself. Although it does not have to be done with music, music can inspire your movements. What would a club or party be without music? Awkward, that's what.

Music can help you let loose, in the best possible way. It is such a pure form of expression. Music can focus you. Whether it's when you workout, do schoolwork or even fall asleep.

The time that one song takes to play can really help calm you down. If you are angry or upset, those two to four minutes can really change your mood. Sometimes music is the only thing that can truly express how you feel. Music can set you free. It sparks thought but can also mellow your racing brain. There are not many things (that are legal), that can do that for people. I think that is a beautiful thing.

I don't think people realize how important music is in our society. Music brings people together, it always has. From churches to concerts, music makes people come to together in a similar interest.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
