Life Outside the Box

We live in the society where there are so many expectations that our dreams get blurred. It’s hard for people to determine what they are passionate about, what they really want from life, and how to do the impossible. All of this simply because we have this directional, step-by-step plan we are expected to follow; there is no true “spontaneous” anymore. Someone who really opens my perspective to the world once told me that society puts us in a box; I want to know how to get out of that box.

Do whatever you need to do to live life in this moment.

Your moments are constantly fleeting and there are no opportunities to ever stop the clock. Not every moment has to be the best moment of your life, that’s what makes special occasions special, but always do what you want to be doing in each moment. Do not let the structure of society stop you, live. Who cares if it is a Monday? Do what you want to do now. It sounds cheesy to say that we do not know how much time we have, but it’s true.

Do the unexpected and question the rules.

I am not saying you need to break laws just to see what happens, but what about all of the boundaries we choose to put up for no reason? What is going to happen if you get in the elevator and face the wrong way? What is going to happen if stay up all night and sleep all day? What is going to happen if you sit in the "reservation only" beach chairs? Do something different and question something you never thought of; either you will get surprising results or a decent story.

Do not let fear stop you.

As soon as we start letting what scares us, stop us, we put up this barrier that is including in this box society builds for us. The lifeguard go inside, the waves get huge, and the current is clearly stronger because the storm is coming… are you afraid to swim? Maybe, heck, you barely even know how to swim. All of a sudden you realize you are running into the water and swimming out there and you are scared to death each time a wave knocks you under, then you decide to swim into the wave and each time you come up more excited to swim out further. Do not stop; keep going.

Money does not matter.

We live in a world that is run by money, but do not let the money run you. Yes, you cannot be reckless and leave yourself in a positions where you have no choices, but you need to live and do not let the fear of money stop you. Looking back are you going to remember the memories or the $200? I am 21 years old and attempting to put myself through law school in a year, I am obviously trying to save, but I am also trying to live.

Do not get stuck.

We all need jobs and homes and relationships and structure, but we need change. Remember how much learning and experiencing life gives you and do not let yourself get stuck. Nothing is wrong with stability, but do not let your life become a standard schedule that you just try and meet because you “have to”. Life is more exciting when you try a new perspective each time you do something. Why not just even drive to work a different way? Do not be scared of the unknown; be excited for the new opportunity.

Do not forget who you are when finding yourself.

It is funny how sometimes we feel so driven to go "find ourselves" that we forget who we are. A lot of what I am trying to say in this article encourages change, but during all of this it is important to also remember the purpose of this all is to be the best version of yourself. You cannot do that if you forget who "yourself" is; be true to you and do not forget

Let people think what they want to think.

The thing about living outside the box is that often it means being different, this is not bad. You never meet truly amazing people who aren’t different from the rest. Know that not everyone is going to approve or like what you have to say or do or think, but this should never stop you. Be firm is what you believe and hope for; never step down from it. We have to be passionate because we are one of seven million trying to be one in seven million.

Be with who you want to be with.

There is nothing greater in life than the experiencing it with the ones you love. Do all of your favorite ideas with your favorite person and you will never regret it. You eventually realize that the memories are not your favorite because the place, the time, the activity, or the excitement; it is because the person you spend it with. When you find someone who wants to make dreams come true with you, feel lucky and never let them go. Never forget that because who you are with is most likely your greatest adventure.

Society wants us to live in this box where there are such strategies and expectations for each of our lives. They put up these borders to protect us and society as a whole, but nothing breaks the ordinary if you are not willing the break the box first. Always remind yourself that you have dreams for a reason and that is to turn them into plans. Do not live the life that you “have to” live, but rather choose each day to live the life you dream to live. They say it’s always easier said than done, but just go do it. You are the author of your own story and you need to make it one worth reading; what’s your dream?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
