I am not ashamed to say that I have completely fallen in love with science. Everything science-related instantly grabs my attention and I just can’t get enough. Why do I love science so much? Because it makes sense of this crazy and chaotic world. It digs in deep and exposes the beauty that often goes unnoticed.
Look at a single cell inside of the human body. That single cell is filled with tiny particles that all know how to work together to make that one cell function correctly. Then that single cell knows how to interact with surrounding cells, and before you know it, thousands of cells are all working as a team. And just like that, your heart is beating and will continue to beat for the duration of your whole life.
Zoom out billions and billions of lightyears and take a look at the stars. Stars are made of burning gases that glow in all sorts of brilliant colors. When viewed from the right perspective, stars tell stories in the sky with connect-the-dot pictures. These magnificent creations give us a tiny glimpse of heaven.
Every piece of the universe is beautiful. Everything from blood cells and spiders, to coral reefs and planets. And when you shift your perspective and view the world from above, our lives as humans seem so small compared to everything else. But even though we may be just tiny players in the world’s chess game, we are still important. We add to the beauty of the world. We add something to the world that all the animals and plants and nature can’t – we bring culture to the world.
People everywhere are beautiful, no matter what ethnicity, age, religion, gender, size, level of education, or income. We are all made unique and have a reason for being on this marvelous earth. Much of the most amazing things that we know and experience come from the bright minds of the human race. We have an extensive range of music to enjoy and the ability to create and admire artwork. We can work with numbers, construct intricate buildings, and can reach new heights with advancements in medicine. But the most significant thing that humans bring to this world is love.
All people have a God-given desire to share love for other people. When something tragic happens, such as a devastating earthquake that uproots an entire town or a tsunami that wipes a region clean, people instinctively reach out to help. Some people pray for those caught in the midst of the disaster. Others give their money to help repair the damaged town. Some people donate their time and go to those areas to directly lend a helping hand. There is nobody telling us we need to go to these places to help, or even to send our prayers of healing to these strangers. Yet, people still want to do what they can to show their love.
We are all linked together, much like the cells of the human heart and the countless stars in our galaxy. There are complex and essential relationships between science, between humans, and between science and humans. This intricate web of relationships forms life, and that is something quite beautiful.
