Life Lessons By Lizzie McGuire

Lizzie McGuire was my all time favorite show growing up. I would watch this show every day and wish that I could be the fourth member of Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo’s trio. Hilary Duff was my girl, and I think I even went to all of her concerts that came to my area. Lizize McGuire was super funny and entertaining, but it also had some valuable life advice! My dad always said that a couple of friends like Miranda and Gordo were more valuable than being “popular.” The older I get, the more I realize how right he was! Here are some things I learned from Lizzie McGuire.

1. People are much more than their clique.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. A person can like math and be a fun person, or love theater and not be super dramatic in real life!

2. We all have our strong subjects.

Not everyone is good at math, and not everyone’s good at English. Everyone is good at different things, and that’s okay! But remember that when it comes to you. Don’t beat yourself up because you’re not good at something; instead, focus on what you are good at!

3. Expectations kill relationships and hurt people.

This is a BIG ONE. I cannot stress this enough. Expectations are when you expect a person do something or act a certain way without communicating it. No one can read minds, and no one can predict your expectations. It sets the other person up to disappoint you, and they won’t even know what they did. This is a great way to kill a friendship or relationship. Don’t go into anything with expectations; instead, let the person surprise you with how great they are. And if something really bothers you, communicate with them.

4. Life is hard sometimes. Take care of yourself.

Everyone has those days. Everyone makes mistakes. Oh, wrong show?

Life will get you down sometimes. Just don’t let it keep you down.

5. Nice guys ARE the ones you want!!!

While it may feel great to have the most popular boy in school like you, more than likely it won’t last. Your super nice guy friend who has a crush on you knows you much better than the popular boy, and probably likes you for who you really are, rather than just your looks.

6. The world needs you.

You can only be good at being yourself! The world needs what YOU have to offer it, and you shouldn’t waste your precious time and energy trying to be someone else. It’s just a waste of time, and you’re depriving those who love you of your uniqueness!

7. Life is a wonderful adventure.

This life is what dreams are made of. Having a positive perspective can make life so much better, even if you get played by an Italian popstar in Italy. Put on that microphone and show the world what you’re made of, just like Lizzie!

Three years of Lizzie McGuire was not nearly enough. It was such a great show, and Lizzie, Miranda, and Gordo taught me so many life lessons growing up. Thank goodness for reruns!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
