13 Life Lessons From The Ultimate Henny Jonathan Van Ness

Unless you've been living under a rock you've probably seen or at least heard of Queer Eye on Netflix. If you're like me then you have heard about it non stop for months. As summer rolled around I found myself with more spare time in my hands so I decided to see what all the hype was about. I can say with confidence that this is the best show ever invented. It's like Fixer Upper and What not to Wear's beautiful love child. Needless to say this is peak Reality Television.

The premise being that the Fab 5 come to give a helpless soul a complete mind, body, and life makeover. Johnathan Van Ness, otherwise fondly referred to as “Gay Jesus", is there to snatch everyone's wig. Both literally and metaphorically.

1. It's ok to make fun of yourself

This scene was also really funny because he started driving in the wrong lane.

2. Confidence is key

3. Abbbreviating makes life so much easier

“ Bobby ‘struggs to func’ Camp” is just my spiritual identity.

4. Always do your research

Sulfates are truly awful for your hair, which I would have never known.

Anything that can clean a car should not be going anywhere near your delicate skin. Products lie.

5. Getting to the top is no easy feat

I played violin for 6 weeks, then I quit because I was put in the back row. I should’ve just pushed someone.

If you want to be first chair you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. That’s show biz.

6. Identity should not only be owned, but celebrated.

There is no one else that is exactly like you.

If you can’t accept yourself then who will?

7. Being confident in a decision even when it’s a horrible mistake

Lice would be a tradgedy for him. The hair is his brand.

8. Shameless flirting never hurt anyone

The wittiness in him flirting with the firefighter after his spa day was just beautiful.

9. First he’s sour then he’s sweet

like a sour patch kid

10. Shameless displays of thirst are acceptable and warranted

a man can try

11. Self care is not selfish

You only get one first impression. It is not vain to take care of your body, and take pride in your appearance. You are always going to be with yourself, so you need to take care of yourself.

12. You are worthy and capable of whatever you set your mind to

Like Kelly Clarkson said “ what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. You can do this!

13. It is never too late to reinvent yourself

There are no limitations or expiration dates on self improvement. We are always learning and evolving into better people.

Johnathan Van Ness is an icon and should be treated as such.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
