“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
More often than not, in order for us to whole-heartedly believe in something, we must be able to see the end result. Whether that be the outcome of a job interview or where a relationship we are currently in will go in the future, we cannot base all of our beliefs on tangible things. It is so important to follow your heart and have faith because your own thoughts and flawed logic can often fail you. In a way, this secret to life is one of the most valuable ones because going with your gut could bring some of the biggest and most unexpected blessings. Knowing yourself and your heart’s greatest desires will only propel you further into achieving your most fruitful and successful life and self.
“Well, I must endure the presence of a few caterpillars if I wish to become acquainted with the butterflies.”
Patience is key in the face of hardships. Waiting for storms to pass can be draining and when one thing goes wrong in life, it often feels like everything comes crashing down at once. The waiting game can be a difficult one to endure, but fear not because there is always a silver lining to the complexities we face. You have to believe in your own happy ending while in the face of adversity in order to see beauty in the end.
“Grown-ups love figures... When you tell them you've made a new friend they never ask you any questions about essential matters. They never say to you "What does his voice sound like? What games does he love best? Does he collect butterflies? " Instead they demand "How old is he? How much does he weigh? How much money does his father make? " Only from these figures do they think they have learned anything about him.”
As an adult, a lot of us rely on stereotypes or our pre-conceived notions about others as a means for judging people. But, this naïve and superficial way of thinking leads us to judge books by their covers too easily. Each of us is filled with our own desires, dreams, and aspirations and those things are not traits that one can see just by looking at someone. We cannot just look at others based on superficial aspects like how they look or how much fame or fortune they possess. Instead, we must continue to look deeper at others based on their characters and hearts because beauty comes in many different shapes and forms.
“All grown-ups were once children... but only few of them remember it.”
As we continue to grow older, it is natural that more responsibilities will be thrown our way. But life is not just about clocking into your office job or paying bills, it is about growing into a person you are more and more proud of everyday. Growing older does not mean that you have to lose your sense of wonder or imagination. Getting older requires developing a positive mindset about where you are at in life and not limiting your happiness or goals based on your age. It is true that you really are as old as you feel! So, make it a goal each morning to live a life WORTH living, regardless of your age.
