Life Lessons From My Idol, Celine Dion
Cassidy Landry

Her voice is familiar. Her heart is true. Her spirit is grounded. She’s the incomparable Celine Dion and she’s brought us just as many gems of wisdom as worldwide mega hits.

I credit her with some of the happiest moments in my life and below are some reasons why.

Also, did I mention that we made eye contact and she smiled at me one time? Literally, the best moment of my life.

Here are seven things that my idol, Celine Dion, has taught me about the daily musings of life.

1. Always follow your dreams.

Performing since the tender age of five, from an early age Celine followed her goals with optimism and an open mind.

Thank you for teaching me that dreams are meant to be pursued. They are not meant to be left lurking in the dark corridors of our mind.

Quite often I falter in my faith and lack in all hope. It’s the faith that keeps one in believing in their biggest dreams and it’s the hope that they will one day come true.

It’s only when I look to her that I know that dreams are meant to be chased. The journey of following those dreams often leads to some of the most beautiful and worthwhile moments.

2. Love will always triumph.

Who would Celine Dion be without her ballads describing epic love? She is best known for the songs that often inspire powerful emotions in us.

In her personal and public lives, she has often shown us that time and time again love is the passion that is best expressed at all times. Her love for her family, friends and fans is evident from the moment she begins to speak of one or the other.

Thank you for teaching me that love is not meant to be shied away from. If it is true, then it should be pursued.

3. Family is first.

Celine reminds us that the most important people in our lives are the ones who have been there from the beginning. Her Las Vegas show is filled with many stories of her home life and even a video showcasing her adorable family.

We idolize her idea that although show business is her passion in life; her family is the love of her life and will always remain her top priority.

Therefore, thank you for teaching us to overlook the material things in life and cherish the people. In the end, they are the most worthwhile of all.

4. Your other supporters are just as important.

Just as she appreciates the love of her relatives, she cares just as much for her fans as well.

Fans see something humble and down-to-earth in her. She shares the most intimate moments with fans in order to relate to us.

She acknowledges fans with the familiarity of a friend and love of a mother.

Her kindness and spirit resonates with so many doting individuals worldwide.

Thank you for teaching me that the people who have joined my journey at a later time are still just as important as the ones who have been there from the beginning. Friendship can carry you to places that other relationships cannot.

5. Never forget where you started.

If there is one thing I admire about Celine, it’s that she never forgets where she comes from.

With all the destinations and miles she has traveled, Celine remains a proud Quebecois. She is quick to assure fans that her roots are a part of her and who she has evolved to become today.

Simply put, thank you for showing us that anything is achievable regardless of where you are from and what has been placed in your path.

6. “The show must go on.”

“The show must go on” is more than a song lyric for Celine. It’s a motto symbolizing her current chapter in life. In the face of tragedy and adversity, Celine has shown that your situation now will not always remain so. Celine’s mantra has rung true in multiple instances, such as: the passing of her beloved father, the passing of her loving brother and the passing of her doting manager and husband, Rene.

Celine has fought the daily battles that come with such magnificent losses in order to keep the spirit of these sorely missed men alive.

Thank you for teaching us fans that tragedy is not the end. We can remember our loved ones while also doing the things they loved most.

7. Remain true to yourself.

As we Celine fans know, she is an open book in all areas of her life. She has opened her heart on many occasions and because of it, has been well received by so many.

Although her fame is magnificent, she has always remained grounded and true to herself.

Thank you Celine for teaching us that no matter where you go, it’s always important to stay true to your goals, ideals and morals. It’s not about the fame and fortune, but the people and stories we collect along the way.

Thank you Celine for teaching not only me, but millions around the globe some of the greatest life lessons to date.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
