Life Lessons From F.R.I.E.N.D.S

F.R.I.E.N.D.S is probably one of the best TV shows that has ever aired on TV.  Okay, I may be a little biased but admit it, you can not help but laugh each time you watch an episode. We all fell in love with the six characters and would shamelessly binge watch re-runs whenever they were on. And now, thanks to the ever glorious Netflix, you can watch it whenever your little heart wants to. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler and Ross became our friends over the ten years the show was on. They showed us how to love our friends and how to live life to the fullest. I know for a fact that there was not a dry eye anywhere during the finale. Even though the show ended over ten years ago, there are life lessons that anyone can take away from this classic show.

1. Be yourself.
The entire cast showcases this to a T; they are not afraid to be themselves at any given time. Even though Phoebe is eccentric and a little out there, she shows viewers that you will be the happiest if you stay true to yourself. It is better to go through life staying true to yourself than trying to fit society's mold. Why be miserable going through life not being yourself, when you can be happy all the time?

2. Coffee is always the best solution.
Coffee is the nectar of life in the show; and it is most certainly the nectar of life when you are in college. There is nothing better than sitting around talking with your friends with a big cup of coffee. You feel all warm and fuzzy and can talk about anything with your friends. It is better than any kind of therapy for sure.

3. Follow your dreams.
We all had dreams as kids of becoming firefighters, astronauts, princesses: what's to say that we cannot be whatever we dreamed of becoming? Joey struggled for years to become a famous actor and after numerous auditions, he became Dr. Drake. Rachel finally made it big in the fashion business. And Monica became a mom after years of wanting kids. During college we are made to chose what we want to do in life, and F.R.I.E.N.D.S showed us that we should strive to do what we want in life. There's the old saying that you will never work a day in your life if you love what you do. So while we're young let's take a cue from F.R.I.E.N.D.S and follow our dreams.

4. Your friends are your lifelines.
Whenever life got hard, the characters never hesitated leaning on each other for support. They were shoulders to cry on, never hesitating to laugh with each other, and always had each other's backs. Our friends are here to do the same thing. They are here for us to go to during the hard times and the good times. Whether you need someone to go shopping with or have heart to hearts with, your friends will always be there. In college you will find life long friends; if you are in a sorority or fraternity you will always have those sisters or brothers. Hold on to your friends dearly, like Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Joey and Ross did.

5. Get off the plane.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
