Taylor Swift is one of my biggest role models. She's so positive and such an inspiration. Here are a few life lessons as told by Taylor Swift herself, though her music.

1. “Baby, I could build a castle out of the bricks they threw at me.”

If there’s one thing that T-Swift teaches us, it’s that you should never let anything hold you back. She has (and still does) face her fair share of negativity. The famous Kanye West scene is a prime example of this. It’s not the situations you find yourself in, however, but how you handle yourself while facing them. If you channel these experiences in a positive way, you might just get a Grammy out of it.

2.“We’re young and we’re reckless. We’ll take this

way too far. It'll leave you breathless. Or with a nasty scar.”

Being young comes with the “young and naïve,” stereotype, and this may be true, sometimes. We’re still learning and making risky decisions. Some of them end well, and others don’t. We have to make these mistakes, though, in order to grow. This is how we learn and, though it may hurt sometimes, it’s normally better to go for it than to sit around wondering “what if?”

3. "We’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time. It’s miserable and magical.”

If this isn’t the perfect description of college life, I don’t know what is. Taylor Swift perfectly sums it up; this time for us isn’t always perfect, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re confused about our futures, learning to be independent with our freedoms, making new friendships and saying goodbye to old ones. But there’s a thrill in the unknown and there’s a certain magic to this experience that we’ll miss once we’ve finally gotten everything “figured out.”

4. “This is me swallowing my pride, standing in front of you saying I’m sorry for that night.”

We all know Taylor isn’t afraid to call someone out when they’re wrong, but it’s just as important to be able to admit when you’re wrong as well. Sometimes we need to be the bigger person, swallow our prides, and mend the relationship we’ve harmed. It’s a hard this to do, but it’s important.

5. "Sophistication isn’t what you wear or who you know or pushing people down to get where you want to go.”

Sometimes it’s important to take a step back and think about what’s important in life. It’s not about material things or relationships based on status. Nothing good in life ever comes from belittling others to help yourself (and no, writing creative songs to channel your feelings doesn’t count).

6. “The best people in life are free.”

The people who love you will always be there for you, no matter what. Fake friends will come and go, and that’s why it’s important to treasure the good ones and not take them for granted.

7. “She lost him but she found herself and somehow that was everything."

It’s important not to let yourself get so caught up in relationships, platonic or romantic, that you stop being yourself. Anyone worth having a relationship with will love you for you, and if they don’t, they’re probably not worth having around. It’s important to stay true to yourself.

8. “Don’t you see the starlight? Don’t you dream impossible things?”

Taylor Swift encourages you to go for your dreams. IT doesn’t matter how big they are; go after what you want. Don’t sell yourself short. If you shoot for the moon and fall short, you’ll still have reached the stars.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
