Life Lessons From Amy Poehler

Amy Poehler is a role model to all outspoken and hardworking women. Throughout her career, she has done more than make us all laugh by creating hilarious TV shows and acting out various characters on "Saturday Night Live" -- she has inspired us and taught us. Here are a few things she's taught others.

Surround yourself with good people.

You are who you hang out with. Hanging out with negative people? You're going to slowly but surely become negative.

Keep your best friends close.

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, aka comedy's power couple, have been friends since 1993. They make movies with each other and sometimes even star in each other's television shows.

Stay true to yourself.

When you're focusing on improving yourself and staying true to who you are, you'll attract positivity.

Celebrate all victories.

Whether it's small, such as getting a little extra on your paycheck, or something big, like signing a new lease.

Don't be something you're not for a boy.

We've all been in the situation when a guy says something he may think is funny, but you just don't. Don't lie and force a fake laugh. It's OK to let them know that you didn't think what he said was funny.

Always make time to dance.

Enjoy yourself.

Did your jam just come on at the bar? Don't fight the urge, girlfriend. Dance it out.

Know your worth.

Congratulate your fellow women.

Not everything is a competition, friends. Did your peer get an awesome job? Congratulate her! Don't jealously stare at her. Us ladies are all in it together.

You don't need a man, a certain job, or that new shiny toy to complete you.

Don't forget about your day ones.

Never forget about your pals who have been with you for years.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
