We all get a little sad when things don't go as planned.
We're down when the forecast calls for sunny skies but we look out the window to discover rainfall.
We're doleful when we've studied and worked so hard for an exam only to receive a not-so-great grade.
There are times when life keeps me up at 3 in the morning due to its canny, unpredictable attributes. These are the nights I sit and ponder why I even try to have a timeline. These are the nights I question why I make it so that everything has to have a time frame.
The truth is, it doesn't. Life doesn't have a deadline. And by this I mean we should be in no rush to get things done at a certain time because life will say otherwise.
Throughout my 19 years of life, I've realized that plans change and things don't always go as you want or as planned, whether they're your hopes and wishes for the far future or a daily check list of things to do. Unplanned events come up and life throws a curve ball.
On a breezy, less serious note: throughout my first year of college it became clear that I cannot plan to do unrealistic things like rewriting all notes when I get to my dorm or reading this whole chapter while laying down. Some might say that is just pure laziness. I say you're correct because as soon as I get into my dorm; I am either falling asleep or listening to music on Spotify.
Anyway, my point is, the reason why plans change and we don't get what we want is because life does not give an ounce of sympathy when it comes to what we want. Life could care less about our plans.This is because it's life! It does what it wants. We all know and understand that life is unpredictable. And when life goes left when you want to go right we might make comments such as;
"Life happens."
"S*** happens."
"Life's a b****."
"Plans change."
"This is not what I had planned."
Blah blah blah. Anyway, you get the point. Life does what it wants when it wants. The list goes on.
I've only now realized this because pretty much my whole life I've had plans. I mean, we all do. We plan day-to-day things such as getting up at a certain time, going to school/work, running errands. And all that is completely fine. In fact it's needed. It keeps our lives organized.
What I've found is that the bigger plans of life, aspirations, hopes, and dreams can't be planned. They're simply out of our control. Now I'm not saying that we shouldn't have dreams and wishes (I'm not trying to kill your dreams). But what I am saying is we must keep in mind that life cannot be planned. It does what it wants. We may very well have dreams, aspirations and hopes but we must keep in mind that anything can happen and our hopes and wishes may not go exactly as planned. That's the beauty of it all, isn't it? The fact that we don't know what tomorrow holds and anything can happen.
I've also found that for me, having this mindset allows me to have a better understanding of the downfalls of life.
When life goes left when you wanna go right, you can't stress over it. You have to stop and think of your next move because even though life is out of our control, it doesn't mean it has to control us.
So, they also say:
"Everything happens for a reason." This I can agree with. Although the reason is up to interpretation. For sure the reason is not that it was planned.
