Life Can Be Unexpected

An article devoted to a loved one.

Life Can Be Unexpected
Camille Pourciau

You never know what life is going to hit you with next. Out of nowhere, you are in a situation where you never could of imagined you would be sitting in. It could have to do with health, crisis, matter of commitment, etc. The curve ball life throws you could be bad or good, depending on what the situation is.

The event that has come across in my life unexpectedly that I will speak about today is unfortunately a bad one.

When something tragic happens to one of your loved ones, you do not know what to do. Maybe you panic, fear the worst, or you could handle it calmly like a pro. For me, I feared the worst.

My article today is devoted to my family, but especially my uncle. He has been hit with the most devastating disease we have in this world: the disease of cancer.

Cancer is one of those things where it happens so fast you don't remember how it started. In the moment, all you want it to do is go away, so you forget everything that happens in between.

When something traumatizing like this happens in your life, it is important to lean on your family. They are the ones that get you, the ones that will never judge you, and the ones that love you unconditionally.

That is the place I am right now. At this moment in my life, family is what I need to count on most. Sometimes, we forget that they are there and we get held up in distractions.

I did not need the situation of my uncle getting sick to help me remind me that family is so important, but that's what happened. I feel as if I have never been closer and the power of God and our faith is what is keeping this journey go by faster and why later I won't remember the details of what happened in between.

Things happen in this world that we cannot control, but with prayer and absolution for our sins, we can make the bad things weaken in sight.

The power of coming together as one has such a big effect on what makes the world a better place. It does not have to be a huge march of people coming together in a city and projecting goodness and kindness. It can happen in your living room on a Saturday night when you wanted to go out, but you stayed home and watched a movie with your parents.

The experience of seeing someone suffer that I loved so much changed my attitude about life and the choices you make. It really is true when someone says life flies by, and you cannot live in the fear of getting sick or losing a loved one, but instead taking every memory and every moment you have with someone you love and making it last.

Not only do we need to cherish the remembrances of our family to get through tough times, but being generous goes a long way. By generous, people think of money, but I think of time. Giving time to someone that needs it or donating your time to something with a cause.

You never know what life with throw at you, so if it hits you off guard, know what your priorities are. Put the things that matter on the top of your list. Take everything into consideration because since life does like to to throw us these curve balls, have your glove out ready to catch it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
