Life Advice From Tina Fey And Amy Poehler

Over the past few days, all I've seen is "Star Wars" stuff. It's in ads, all over social media, everywhere. Well, no offense to "The Force Awakens," I'm sure it's great, but I really don't care. The movie I really wanted to see this weekend was "Sisters," starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The premise of the movie isn't particularly stunning: Two 40-year-old women throw a party in their childhood home. But, to be honest, even if the film was a complete train wreck, I'd still go see it; that's how awesome the two of them are.

Tina and Amy are basically my comedy goddesses; everything they do is amazing, and I can't get enough. I can't count the number of hours I've spent decompressing, watching "30 Rock" and "Parks and Rec" on Netflix. Individually, they kill, but together, they are perfection. If you need proof, go watch "Baby Mama" or last week's episode of SNL. (Seriously, this year's Christmas show is the best episode I've seen in a long time. Everyone should watch it!) Both Tina and Amy are so ridiculously talented; I can only hope that I'm as good at my job someday as they are at theirs. Not only are they my source of comedic inspiration, but frequently my source of life inspiration as well. Here are just a few of my favorite quotes!

Don't waste your time trying to change opinions. Do your thing and don't care if they like it. - Tina Fey

There's power in looking silly and not caring that you do. - Amy Poehler

You have to let people see what you wrote. It will never be perfect, but perfect is overrated. Perfect is boring. - Tina Fey

Great people do things before they're ready. They do things before they know they can do it. - Amy Poehler

You can't be that kid standing at the top of the water chute, overthinking it. You have to go down the chute. - Tina Fey

Sometimes painful things can teach us lessons that we didn't think we needed to know. -Amy Poehler

Say yes, and figure it out afterwards. - Tina Fey

The earlier you learn to focus on what you have and not obsess over what you don't have, the happier you will be. - Amy Poehler

Some people say, "Never let them see you cry." I say, if you're so mad you could cry, then cry. It terrifies everyone. - Tina Fey

It's never overreacting to ask for what you need. - Amy Poehler

You can always tell how smart someone is by what they laugh at. - Tina Fey

Try to keep your mind open to possibilities and your mouth closed on matters that you don't know about. Limit your "always" and your "nevers." - Amy Poehler

Confidence is 10% hard work and 90% delusion, just thinking foolishly that you will be able to do what you want to do. - Tina Fey

You're never too late to learn new things, and you're never too young to be very wise. - Amy Poehler

Always remember the most important rule of beauty, which is: Who cares? – Tina Fey

Be easy on yourself. Have fun. Only hang around with people that are positive and make you feel good. Anyone who doesn’t make you feel good, kick them to the curb…The minute anyone makes you feel weird and non-included or not supported, either beat it or tell them to beat it. – Amy Poehler

Whatever the problem, be part of the solution. Don’t just sit around asking questions and raising problems. – Tina Fey

Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life. No one got here because they did it on their own. – Amy Poehler

When faced with ageism or lookism or even really aggressive Buddhism, ask yourself the following question: “Is this person between me and what I want to do?” If the answer is no, ignore it and move on. – Tina Fey

I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy isn’t a pejorative term at all. It means someone’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind leading. – Amy Poehler

One of these days, I'll write an article describing how these two inspire me, but I'm sure by now you're beginning to see why.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
