In the aftermath of the Orlando shooting, people gathered to show support and love to the victims and families of the victims. The people who gathered were from all backgrounds and walks of life. They were gay, straight, Christian, atheist and just about every other represented group, showing love towards these people, but the media has focused more on the LGBT victims. Even the temporary profile picture filter on Facebook had the LGBT flag on it.
I am not trying to upset or put down the LGBT community in any way, but I also do not believe that the shooting was just targeted at the LGBT community. It was a malicious act of terrorism against America. I think that is important to remember that in a time like this because as Americans we are so much stronger united. Saying that it was an act of terrorism against only the LGBT community divides us, just like it would divide us if it was only an act of terror against the Missionary Baptist Church community in South Carolina, or even only an act of terror against office workers or college students. We need to unite and stand against this act of terrorism as red-blooded Americans.
There is a maxim that says, “United we stand, divided we fall.” That is very real in this day and age. We try to divide ourselves into smaller groups, and while they have some impact, they will never have the impact that millions of Americans standing together will have. When 9/11 happened, people came together in support of other people like never before. People recognized that they had to come together with one voice to show the terrorists that, as Americans, we will not stand for our fellow Americans to be terrorized.
I urge you to join in this fight against terrorism with your fellow Americans for your fellow Americans. This radical act of ISIS-supported terrorism will not be tolerated in America. Remember, it was not just an act of terrorism against the LGBT community, but against America as a whole. Stand tall. Stand proud. And stand with your fellow American.
