What To Do When Things Get Toxic
Kylie McGirr

Have you ever loved someone more than you loved yourself? From the moment you meet this person, you did everything with them. The two of you went to amusement parks and impromptu adventures that you'll never forget. You would stay up hours into the night sharing stories, dreams and secrets that you would never tell anyone else. This person has been your personal diary for years. They know you better than you know yourself. Between the two of you there are years of beautiful bliss, good memories, laughs and tears. It does not matter whether this person is a significant other, best friend or family member, we all have a person that at some point in time, we would give our all to.

But BOOM! In one day, the person that you put all your trust into becomes the person you should have never trusted to begin with. Maybe this person has hurt you physically or emotionally. Maybe they cheated on you, lied to you, manipulated you or abandoned you. Even if it is all the above, when you finally realize that this person has become the very bane of your existence - It is time to LET THEM GO.

A lyric that always stuck with me when I think about letting someone go is from Kanye West's "Heard em say": "people in your life for seasons and everything that happens is for a reason." While this line is very true, it is hard to do away with everything that a person was to you. No one can replace what you had with that person. Regardless of how hard you try to forget them, that person will always have a piece of you.

But, you must face facts that that person is no longer good for you. They hurt you and destroyed you. They no longer deserve you. You can fight tooth and nail to believe that things will get better and go back to what they used to be when things were good - but it won't. Do not focus on the shoulda , coulda, wouldas. Face it, that relationship or friendship is over.

In order to grow and reap the blessings that are to come your way, you must let that person go. Let go of that person for yourself. You deserve to be happy and to be surrounded by people that have your best interest at heart and will do their best to not hurt you. Once you see the signs that someone has a controlling or manipulative nature, let them go. If a person asks you to change yourself because they are dissatisfied with who you are, let them go. If a person is not helping you to grow into a better you, let them go. It does not matter how much you may love a person, you have to learn to love yourself more. In the end, letting go of the toxicity will then open the door for healthy relationships with bigger and better adventures in store.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
