A time capsule letter to myself and all who feel the same way.

Letter To The Future Me
The Odyssey

Dear Future Self,

I want you to look back on the moments now, where you felt like you couldn't get through the struggles. Every obstacle that comes into your path, you must act as water and go around the obstacle finding any solution possible to overcome the adversity. I'm going to laugh at the irony of this letter, because now I'm wishing I was older and when I'm older I’ll be wishing I was younger. But I'm writing this letter more as a time capsule piece to look back on and understand that I will forever be growing. Not just my ears and nose, but mentally, emotionally and physically. These are all aspects of life that we must accept because they are the only things that are certain -- the bodies aging. Look back on the friends that came and gone. Look at the lessons you have learned from their existence. There will be many positives and many negatives, but lessons you learn from each situation will help you grow stronger than before.

At moments I felt like quitting, I would take a walk and accept beauty and life for as it is. Life is very precious, as we know, no day is ever promised. So future self, please make sure to keep your family as close as you can, and when I say family, I include the friends that never felt like friends. These were the friends that felt like siblings the moment you met them. Future self, don't forget to read a book a month to keep the mind healthy. A very close friend of mine told me to think of the mind as Play-doh. The longer you let it sit with no interaction, it begins to dry. The brain is a muscle and you must work it out like your biceps and calves. Think of reading books like squats for the brain. Also, don't ever lose your sense of style. Don't let anyone influence you any way other than how you believe you should be. Go against the masses if that's what's going to make you happy. Remember that people that try to bring you down, only do so because they're insecure with their self and are jealous of your profound confidence.

Although I have this confidence now, I am writing this as a reminder if there was ever a moment in life for you felt like you weren't good enough, that you are the greatest self you could be and nothing anyone says can change that. Remember, no matter what way you look at the universe it always seems as if you are the center. Technically, you are the center because everyone perceives the world so much differently than the next person. This unique qualia that every individual possesses allows for that sense of uniqueness you have to sky rocket your ideas into interstellar. Don’t let your mind create barriers that don't exist, allow your brain to see in all ways possible and don't forget, you are the future. What you do after reading this letter, should not only have an impact on yourself but the others around you. If you’re reading this in the future, then we somehow survived a potential Trump presidency and didn't end the human race due to an all out nuclear warfare. As Albert Einstein once said, “I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Let’s bring a better future for all.

Love,
Present self.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
