A Letter To My Younger Self
Michelle Bufford

Dear Younger Me,

You’ll be turning 24 in just a few days. I’ve decided to check in on you and let you know how things are going. First things first: you’re definitely not where you’d thought you be. You haven’t graduated college yet and still don’t have your license. You didn’t go to Ohio State on full scholarship. A lot of your friends you started out with aren’t here with you. You’ve been through some things: loneliness, anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts. You’ve sought out help in the past and honestly need to get back to counseling.

Your faith in God was shaken a bit.

You didn’t know where to turn or even how to get out of this mindset. You’ve allowed your thoughts to take over so much it debilitated you and caused you to stay in bed for hours on end. You felt like a failure. But you didn’t give up.

Your career path has changed a lot. You’re on your way to be a therapist that specializes in mental health and drama therapy. You have friends who look up to you. Your aunt has been the backbone and prayer warrior that’s been keeping you on your journey. You’re a junior in college when you’d thought you never ever see past the ninth grade in high school.

God still loves (and forgives!) you.

You’re learning about who you really are. You’re not some soft spoken girl who completely has no strength. Yes, sometimes you lose heart quickly, but there are constant reminders of where you are and where you’re going. God still has your back, dude.

You’re currently at one of the best colleges in Ohio! You’re living a dream that you thought died a long time ago. You’re turning out to be a very different young woman who goes after her dreams. You’re a lot to handle but only the right people who truly loves you gets the privilege to who you are. Sadly, you have no fiancé at the moment. So your dream of being married at 25 is kind of out of the question. But! You’re still maturing and you’ll be in Korea in the Spring so that trumps a husband for now, right?

One last thing, know that I love you. It’s a hard road, but I trust God that He’ll continue to lead you down the right path.

Now, study before you fail your quiz tomorrow!

Signed,

Current Me

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
