Dear Winter Break,

It has been a long and stressful semester and every college student is incredibly ready for you to get here. Some of us have been wanting you since the first day of class and some realized how much they needed you after Thanksgiving break.

No matter how much fun college can be, the stress of the end of the semester is taking over and we cannot wait for a break from the ongoing responsibility and stress college gives us. There are so many reasons we need you to get here as fast as possible and finals are the only thing coming between us and the break we have been waiting for. This is why we need you to get here already.

We miss our high school friends. Of course, we have met so many new people since we started college, but there is just something special about friends from home. It doesn't matter how many great friends you meet in college: you will always miss your friends that have known you forever. Winter break brings everyone home and together again. We are so excited to catch up with our greatest friends and hear all about how they're doing; we also can't wait to tell them all about our crazy college experiences so far.

We need homemade food in our lives. Dining hall food and microwavable pizzas are only good for so long and ramen and mac and cheese just don't make us happy any more. The thought of almost a month of Mom and Grandma's food is just what we need. The holidays mean Christmas cookies and the best meals, so of course we can't wait to get home.

We are tired of not getting enough sleep.

Whether you live in a dorm or an apartment with your friends, you probably haven't gotten the sleep you needed throughout the semester. Nothing is better than a good night's sleep in your own bed knowing you have no specific time you have to get up. I know I am missing my queen-sized bed more than anything right now. I cannot wait to catch up on sleep.

We need a break from responsibility. College brings out so many different emotions and can cause an unhealthy amount of stress. Balancing your social life with your classes can be a lot to handle. Homework, studying for exams, spending time with friends and working is a lot of responsibility and it will be so nice to take a break from all of it. Winter break will give us time to relax, have some fun and prepare ourselves for what the spring semester will bring.

We miss our families. I don't care how old we are, everyone misses their family at some point. A weekend home here and there just isn't enough and I know that I am so ready to be at home with my family for such a long period of time. Family time is the best time, especially during the holidays.

Our motivation is gone. We may not want to admit it, but our motivation is at an all time low. It has been a long semester and we're at the point where getting out of bed is almost impossible. It's hard to keep going and stay motivated when all we can think about is Christmastime with our families.

The holidays aren't the same when you aren't at home. When it's Christmastime there is nothing I want more than to be at home, watching Christmas movies in a house full of decorations. It's hard to be festive when you're constantly stressing about finals. During the break, we're able to take in the happiness of Christmas without stress and will actually be able to celebrate the right way.

Keep studying and you will be on your way home for the holidays before you know it. All of us college students are in desperate need of our break from reality and are doing all we can to make it through. Finals are hard and stressful, but being home will make it all worth it.

Sincerely,

Every Stressed College Student

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
