You're the Good Cop. You're a lot more than a figure our parents try
to emulate in order to get us to follow the rules, though; you're a real
person.
Your job is scary, but it's never been about you, has it?
You wake up every morning and kiss your families goodbye, but you know you may not come home. Your husbands and wives watch their phones when you're not home on time; they fear the worst the minute you step out the door and can't be comforted until you return.Your children watch the news and pray that their mommies and daddies won't have to be "remembered" as a result of their job.
But it's never been about you.
You've been disrespected and hassled by people who could never do what you do. I couldn't do what you do. That's why I'm so thankful for you. I see your smiles and realize you're just as human as I am. Not everyone sees you for who you are, though.
But it's never been about you. It's never been about you and yet, you still do your job.
You're faced with politics and controversy and death and you still wake up every morning and go back to work. Because someone has to protect us. For every person who doesn't want your protection, there are hundreds of thousands more that thank God for you every day. Some of you have seen lives lost by senseless acts of terror. I am so sorry you've had to watch your brothers and sisters fall. I don't know how you persevere in spite of such loss, but I thank you for your courage.
Thank you for your sacrifice.
Thank you for leaving your sons and daughters every morning to serve the sons and daughters of this nation.
Thank you for your bravery.
Thank you for facing death to give the rest of us a greater chance at life.
Thank you for your selflessness.
Thank you for making it about us and not you, even when we are sometimes too prideful to accept that we need you so much.
We need you, Good Cop. We need you every single day.
It's never been about you, but it should be.
Thank you.
Special thanks to the Indiana State Police for your service. I feel honored to know those of you that I do!
