In the wake of recent events, (we all know that I’m speaking about the election) there is a dire need to recognize that the season of Thanksgiving is soon upon us. It truly breaks my heart to see our beautiful nation’s flag burning and her people crying. Turmoil is rumbling and I pray for America’s future. Now, this article is far from a place to debate political views, as previously stated, we are all well aware of the obscene amount of oppositely opinionated words plastering the walls of every social media. Freedom of speech, ironic, especially considering its non-verbal nature on the world wide web. Politics will forever invigorate some, and deplete the energy of others. Whether invigorated or depleted, why don’t we take the time to, quite simply, breathe? Yes. Actually take the time, in this very moment of reading, to take your eyes off of the screen in front of you, close your eyes, clear your thoughts and breathe. As the process is supposed to go:
Breathe in the good.
Breathe out the bad.
You are going to be okay. I promise you that. Recognize that you are here, as an American, and as a child of God. Please know that God is so good and that you are so loved. This in itself should give one peace. Yet, in every waking moment, whether Democratic, Republican or otherwise, you can pray. You can pray for your Nation, for her leaders, for others and yes, you can pray for yourself!
This is is not a selfish act. God, your Father, longs to hear you, and to build a relationship with you. He knows that you are so worth it. I know, for me, one of the most beautiful parts of my time in prayer is the time I spend in giving thanks. What a more appropriate time to give thanks than in the season of Thanksgiving! How humbling and wonderful is it that we live in a nation that celebrates being grateful and having gratitude. At this time, annually, the American people have the designated opportunity to reflect on the blessings that we thrive in life with. This is a holiday that doesn’t segregate, that doesn’t have to have expectations. I would even go to say it is a holiday that any given person in this world can celebrate. Yes, the tradition in our country started with pilgrimage and a bonding with the Native American culture, (something that I am so genuinely grateful for, and celebrate wholeheartedly) but, my point is, that any human should be, and is welcome to be, joining together as a whole to give thanks.
Give thanks for anything and everything.
So, fellow American, whether you are eating turkey dinner and watching football, or if you are just doing your best to hold yourself together, please pray, know that you are loved and give thanks for that.
