A Letter To Thanksgiving

Never let Christmas dull your sparkle.

Dear Thanksgiving,

I'm so sorry that you don't receive the acknowledgement you deserve. While I was in Target, three days before Halloween weekend mind you, I was appalled to see that next to the aisle of leftover Halloween costumes, there were two aisles of Christmas decorations, but not a single Thanksgiving decoration. It seems like everyone always overlooks you, and I know you must feel so left out.

I just wanted to let you know that we still love you (except for the cranberry sauce, because cranberry sauce is weird looking, no hate to those that like it). We still enjoy going over our family members' houses and piling plates with food. We still eat until we're stuffed and then have a slice of pumpkin pie after. We still gather around the television to watch the parade and we still tell friends and family how much they mean to us each Thanksgiving.

In all honesty, you are one of my favorite holidays, and it's not just because of all of the delicious food. I love all of the memories made while spending time with my family. There is always a feeling of love and warmth that surrounds Thanksgiving that makes the holiday so special. It's fun to sit around the table and talk about what has been going on with the family since the last time we were all together, because it's not just about sitting around a table and eating, it's about being with your family. You're not all about big flashy gifts or holiday sales, you're about togetherness and thankfulness. You're a time for people to reflect on and enjoy those they choose to surround themselves with.

Christmas is a huge, flashy holiday that doesn't even give you time in the spotlight anymore. Instead, it's like you've become a time to quickly pass through instead of a time to stop and take it all in. It seems that every year the Christmas advertisements begin earlier and earlier. Black Friday doesn't even start on Friday anymore, it starts on Thanksgiving. Everyone says time seems to go by faster and faster, but could part of that be because stores are so quick to advertise the next major holiday?

So Thanksgiving, I want you to know that you still matter and that we all still love you. We will always be here to bask in your glory, even if it's only for a day. Never let Christmas dull your sparkle.

I know I'm looking forward to seeing you again.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
