An Open Letter To My Soul Sister
Hannah Louise F

Dear Soul Sister/Wifey for Lifey/Best Friend,

I can’t thank you enough for all you have done. You have changed my life and have had such an amazing impact on it in more ways than you realize. You have taught me so many lessons about myself, others, life, spirituality and so much more.

One of the greatest gifts you have given me is showing me that someone can truly love and accept everything about me. The good, the bad, the ugly, and the super weird.

I have never had friends in my life before who I felt truly “knew” me. I was so used to putting on a fake happy face that I thought I was supposed to wear and you came in and showed me that I don’t have to put a mask on.

You showed me that I can love myself. You showed my how to put my happiness first. You showed me how to stop caring about what others think. You showed my that I can truly let myself be happy and let people in without fear of them leaving. You showed me that I can let myself open up and let others help carry the load of what I am going through. You have supported me while I worked through all my insecurities and fears. You have showed me the true meaning of “friend goals”.

It amazes me how you can be friends with someone for years but never truly “know” them, but with others, like you, everything happened so organically. I know you were meant to be in my life and become my best friend.

It kills me when you get upset or let someone else take your spark away. Anyone who makes you fell less than extraordinary should watch out because I will destroy them. Don’t ever feel insecure or small for any reason because you aren’t. You have such an awesome spirit and personality. You are one of the most beautiful souls I have ever met. I am lucky to call you my best friend.

I hope you know how amazing and beautiful you truly are. You have so much to offer someone, and anyone who knows you or has you as a friend is very fortunate. Anyone who used to have you as a friend but didn’t recognize and keep your sparkling soul in their life is just plain stupid. They obviously didn’t appreciate the light that shines from you, but that’s okay, there is more for me and all of your other friends to love.

I can’t wait for what the future has in store for us. I am so excited to see where life takes us and to witness each other’s growth. I see us in the future, happy and successful, married with kids who call both of us “auntie”.

I am so thankful every day that you are in my life. Just know you have set the bar pretty high for anyone else who enters my life. You have showed me what true friendship is and I can’t thank you enough.

I will always accept your love of pugs, Birkenstocks, and pickles. I will always let you sing as loud as you want to whatever weird 80’s throwback that you find or creepy song from your childhood. Just understand that there is nothing you could do to ever loose me. I hope you know that I will never judge you and I accept everything about you. Thank you so much for being my best friend.

Love,

Patricia

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
