A Letter To My College Roommate
Keilin Moffatt

Dear Roommate,

Thanks for being my roommate. I know I can be a pain sometimes and I appreciate that you deal with it so well. As we go into our senior year of college, I wanted to let you know how much you mean to me and how much I appreciate having you in my life. And yes, it might get sappy.

Thanks for dealing with my nit-picky habits and my need for order in only certain areas of my life. If my desk is out of order, then it’s fine. But if my bed is messed up, then I can’t sleep and will spend 10 minutes completely remaking it. Thanks for understanding and usually laughing at my little quirks that can be annoying.

Thanks for dealing with me when I overreact to the smallest things, worry about the smallest things and get anxious over anything. It could be a class, a friendship, a relationship or something else, but you handle it really well when I need a hug and a reality check. I appreciate you talking the reality back into me and making me laugh to take my mind off of it.

Thank you for being my impromptu study buddy. When I need help studying for a tough test, even if you aren’t in that class, you are always willing to help me study and you keep my goldfish brain focused on the task at hand. My grades and I appreciate the help. There are some tests I have taken that you deserve some of the credit for.

Thank you for being my person to stay in the dorm room with and watch "Friends" on Netflix while being the same person to go get Steak ‘N’ Shake with at 3 a.m. I like that we like the same cheap food and the same TV shows. Thanks for having good taste.

Thanks for not judging me when I eat most of a pizza by myself during finals week. It’s a stressful week and pizza is amazing. Also, thank you for sharing your pizza when I’m too broke to afford my own. You know, you are always welcome to my pizza. To be honest, it’s more fun to share anyway.

Thanks for not judging me when I wear baggy shorts and a T-shirt out in public because it was too much to dress presentable. I appreciate your true opinion on my outfits, but thanks for letting me think those shorts or sweatpants are catwalk worthy too.

Most importantly, thanks for being you. You’re one of my best friends and I couldn’t imagine this time in my life without you. College can be hard not only academically. It can be emotionally and mentally trying and I appreciate all you do to help me through it even if you don’t notice that you’re helping. We have our differences, but that doesn’t stop us from being the crazy set of best friends that we are. I wouldn’t trade you for the world. These past years have been hilarious and a little strange, but we’ve made it through. I’m thankful to that mutual friend who introduced us be cause without her I wouldn’t have met you. Thanks for being my person

XOXO,

Keilin

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
