Dear P-Mom,

Let's be honest here, you're expecting this article. But what you're probably not expecting is what I'm about to say. I'm not the sappiest person except when I'm writing, so let's give this a shot. I promise to keep it light-hearted and funny, as that's also who I am.

I'm not going to lie, when I first met you, I was a little intimidated and slightly scared. But you can ask Sutton, I was intimidated by her at first and now she's also like my mom, so clearly I end up loving the people I am initially intimidated by. I'm not sure why I was, but it makes for an interesting story now.

Despite being intimidated, I knew I could learn a lot from you. I also knew you were always going to be there for me and all of my pledge sisters, no matter what. Having that as a freshman who didn't know what she was doing was amazing, and I can't thank you enough for that.

I was extremely busy during the new member process, to say the least. I was constantly arriving late or leaving early due to my other commitments and was always stressed, but you always worked with me. You made sure I never missed anything important and took the pressure off when I was late. Even if you were frustrated by it, you never showed it, and it helped me tremendously.

Speaking of helping me tremendously, we can't forget about everything you taught me and my pledge sisters. You taught us everything there is to know about our sorority and everything in between. But also while doing so, you taught us life lessons that I'm positive we will carry with us forever.

The new member process is not easy, it's a lot of work and can be stressful at times. You have honestly no idea what you're getting yourself into when you join, at least I know I didn't. I wasn't prepared, but I'm so glad I went through it and had you as my "p-mom". You made it easy, but more importantly, you made it fun, and I can't imagine having anyone else as my p-mom. Thank you for all you have done, and even though you're now 61 miles away, I know you're only a phone call or text away if I need it.

Love,

Allison

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
