An Open Letter To The Girls Who Sorority Squatted With Me On Bid Day

Dear girls,

On August 30, 2015, we all became sisters. We all got the opportunity to join an organization that we feel at home in. I do not mean to sound super sappy when I say this, but I feel more at home with this group of girls than I ever have with anyone else. Going through recruitment I had no idea who any of you were. Didn't know your name, your interests, your beliefs. But the day we got our bid cards and sorority squatted in the hot sun for the longest picture, I knew that this group of girls would change my life. They always say that you share a special bond with your pledge class. Words cannot describe how true that is. We turned to each other during new member meetings about how confused we were about the rules. We struggled together trying to figure out who to make our big. We laugh together about the things we do that would get us into so much trouble. And we always let each other know about any free food opportunity around town.

I may not have actually held a conversation with all of you, but I adore you all. I want to spend my college career in a sorority that builds me as a person with a group of girls I know I can always count on. I can always count on you guys for making me laugh with a silly tweet. I can count on you for blowing up the GroupMe with plans for the night or other sneak sneaky things. I can count on every single one of you for always giving a friendly smile on campus. I can and will always count on you guys for giving me the time of my life. When I am old and looking back on my college memories I'm going to think about the nights we took over the Dojo or Cabin. I'm going to remember all those study dates, food runs and long talks about all those fraternity guys. I know that when I think about these things you are still going to be in my life to laugh with me out them.

I cannot thank you guys enough for how much you have already impacted my life. For all the memories we already have and all the ones we still have to make. I am so happy to be apart of a group that is always going to have my back for the small and complicated things. I am thankful for all the friendships we have made with one another. I am thankful for these friends and for these sisters who are more than friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
