Dear Best Friend

A letter to one of my favorite people

Dear Best Friend,

As I walked into school last week it started to hit me, you’re really not going to be by my side this year. That really sucks because you were the main reason I didn’t go insane during high school. College is going to be rough without you, but with our close bond I know we wont lose touch.

Frankly, I can’t believe you’ve stuck by me as long as you have. With my attitude and stubborn-ness, you’re a trooper. All the late night FaceTime chats and coming with me early to school, because you knew I had to be there thirty minutes before it started or I’d freak out. That turned into you being that annoying friend that makes everyone get up early. I'm glad I could pass that on.

I’m heart broken now that we live so far away from each other (distance sucks!) I miss you so much. I miss the way we'd laugh at the stupidest things. I miss driving around town with you. I miss our little hang out nights every Friday when we'd go to different restaurants. I miss you visiting me at work. I miss living five minutes away, not ninety give or take traffic.

You've been there for me through thick and thin and I couldn't have asked for anything better. I love how we can fight and then go back to normal ten minutes later like nothing happened. I love how I can tell you anything and you won't judge me.

Thank you for everything you've ever done for me.

Thank you for not thinking I'm this weirdo when I was sure everyone else did. Thank you for obsessing over Jason Derulo and One Direction with me. Thank you for visiting me after I had my knee surgery. Thank you for being my hair stylist. Thank you for staying up until 2 am with me as I cried about my problems to you. Thank you for always encouraging me. Thank you for being the sister I never had. Thank you for easing my worries when I start to freak out (which I do a lot.) Thank you for never giving up on our friendship. Thank you for being the best friend I could ever ask for. Thank you for being you.

No matter the distance between us now I will always be a FaceTime, text message, or a phone call away.

Sincerely,

Your Best Friend Who Loves You Dearly

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
