A Letter To One of My Best Friends As We Go Our Separate Ways
Taylore Miles

Dear Best Friend,

“I’ve always got the memories while I’m finding out who I’m gonna be. We might be apart, but I hope you always know, you’ll be with me wherever I go.”

That’s a quote from Hannah Montana’s song "Wherever I Go" and honestly, I think it’s quite fitting for how things are about to go.

We’re going from seeing each other every day to hardly seeing each other at all because of work, college and just being busy. It kind of sucks but that’s life, right? You’re going off to college, and I’m saving up to get out of this town.

I’m going to miss our Friday night dinner dates and our late night drives where we drove out to the lake and blasted All Time Low. But don’t you dare think that I won’t still tag you in cute dog videos on Facebook. That is one thing I will never stop doing.

You’ve been such a big part of my life for so long that it’s really hard to think about the fact that you won’t be here all the time. It’ll be weird not having you show up at the end my driveway on Friday nights to pick me up for our next adventure. It’s just something I’ll have to get used to even though I really don’t want to.

You’re going off to college to do something that you love, and I’m so proud of you for that.

I hope you get everything you’ve ever wanted in life because you deserve it. You deserve to be truly 100 percent happy with how your life turns out.

I’m also so grateful that you found a roommate who you’ve become friends with already. That way I know you’ll be okay and someone will always be there when I can’t be. I know there will be times when you need me there so we can drive around and you can rant about everything that is wrong, but I will no longer be just a three-minute drive away. I’ll be more like a six-hour drive away.

No matter how far apart we are, whether we are in completely different countries from each other or just down the road, I will always be there. You could call me at 3 a.m. and I’ll answer. I may complain a little bit because you know how much I enjoy my sleep, but I’ll still answer and be there if you need me.

Our whole worlds have changed in the last few weeks and they are going to continue to change drastically over the years to come, but I truly hope our friendship is one we hold onto.

Our friendship has made a huge impact on my life, and you alone have gotten me out of some pretty tough spots. So, thank you for everything you’ve ever done for me because I don’t tell you how much I appreciate you enough. You’ve been one of my biggest supporters, but you never fail to tell me when I’m making a huge mistake. Even when I do make a huge mistake you’re always there to listen to me complain about how stupid I am, and how you were right, and I should’ve listened.

This has been my letter to thank you for everything you’ve done, and I hope we don’t spread our wings too far from each other because as Cristina Yang told Meredith on Greys Anatomy, “You’re my person.”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
