Dear OG's,
I don't know how many times I can thank you for being you. For allowing me to be me. For sticking together not only through the tough times, but also through the high points in our lives. As I tell my friends at school about you all, they ask how long we've known each other. So I start my little speech, "this one from Kindergarten, this one since hockey started, this one from girl scouts, etc". Everyone's shocked at how long we've known each other and that we're still so close. I’m not. Good friends last forever.
I could get sappy here and say how we’ve been through it all. And we have, but what people don’t realize is that through all of these good and bad times, we’ve taken them on like challenges. Challenges to show the world who we really are and what we stand for. Through senior year, we tackled Frolics with humor, dancing our way through malls and writing scripts about cheese balls. Through college, instead of drifting apart like most friends do freshman year, we held weekly Skype dates, where we filled each other in on this week’s dorm drama. Now that we’re juniors and seniors in college, we are still as close as ever. While I was in Providence all summer, I still found my way back home to see you all. And when your Subaru came pulling in my driveway in August, I knew that would be a visit to remember. Planning trips to see each other and supporting each other in all of our new journeys is what we do best.
Right now, two of you are on the other side of the world, and yet we still seem to talk every day. I know we always say that we can’t imagine our lives without our friends, but really, I can’t see my life without you guys. I can’t imagine surviving middle school without you all, graduating high school, and now graduating college in a few months without you all by my side. As I start applying for jobs across the country, and even across the world, I am so thankful to have a group of best friends that I can count on. A group that helped me form who I am today. A group that I know will be at my wedding one day.
There’s something to say about growing up with the same people and still being friends with them. While we’ve grown up individually, we’ve grown up together as well. I found this quote on Pinterest, and it reads, “Everyone has a friend during each stage of life. But only the lucky ones have the same friend in all stages of life.” Although we’ve all made other friends throughout our 20 (soon to be 21) years of life, there’s always been us. The Original Gangsters.
Love Always,
Linds
