I’ve been on this planet for almost 20 years, and in those 20 years much has changed. I’ve lived in four different states (one outside the continental US) and many many different houses. I’ve changed my major several times, and I can never decide what I’m going to do with my life. But through everything, you’ve always been there. You've been my constant. You’ve always been there to pick me up when things get bad, and you’ve always been there to laugh with me in the good times.
Sure, we used to fight like cats and dogs. I distinctly remember a time where mom would take pictures of us in order to stop us from fighting. This never worked, and there's a set of pictures that clearly illustrates it. But we always manage to get over it quickly and go back to being friends.
We’ve gotten into a lot of trouble together, too. Remember that time when I helped you climb back into the second story window after you snuck out? Remember that time my high school boyfriend broke up with me for the millionth time, and I couldn’t eat for days? You threatened to beat him up and had your boyfriend call him to scare him. That certainly made me feel better.
We’ve had a pretty rocky life at home, but sticking together helped ensure we had someone to lean on. Especially this past year with several deaths in the family, I’m glad that I had you to hold my hand and get me through it. You’ve always been there to pick up my pieces. I hope that you know I’ve always tried to do the same.
Even though we weren’t really close when we were younger, we’ve certainly turned that around as the years have gone on. I know that you’re always just a phone call away. Right now we’re doing our own things, and we’re 500 miles apart, but I still know that I can count on you whenever I need you. As we get older, graduate college, and have families, things will change. We won't always be able to call and gripe to each other, but that's okay. I know that we'll still remain friends and sisters through everything. And for that, I thank you.
