Dear Whoever is Reading This,
My Name is Jessica Grever, I am a Freshman at Harper college, and I write for Odyssey. For my first article, I thought it would be appropriate that I spent some time sharing a few facts about me to you!
Now that I have graduated from high school I have so many plans and goals that I can’t wait to begin or accomplish. I am attending Harper college for my first year of college and then plan to transfer over to FIT; Fashion Institute of Technology which is located in the heart of New York City. Though I have never been to NYC, I'm positive that it is the place for me. If I do attend the school, I plan on majoring in their Advertising, Communications, and Marketing programs or their Fashion Business program. I have also loved the idea of living in a big city, and NYC has so many opportunities for those who want to go into the fashion industry. My dream job would be an editor-in-chief for Vogue magazine, maybe even GLAMOUR, or to be a creative director. My goal for writing while writing for Odyssey is to improve my techniques and to become a stronger writer as a whole, because if I want I achieve this goal, one day I’m going to need be a terrific writer and be able to write interesting stories for magazines, but also to become a advocate to young adults.
I think something else that you should know about me, is that I am a very theatrical person and I am very into the arts. I started my acting career when I was in the first grade. My first ever musical production was "Oliver Twist"! I played a little orphan, and while I was up there on stage “begging” for food, I realized how much I enjoyed performing. Since then I have done over twenty some musicals and over one hundred performances. That's something I can say I'm very proud of, because I still to this day perform. I was in my high school's musicals my freshman and sophomore year, but chose not to continue on for the rest of my high school years. (Trust me, junior and senior year are busy!) One of my all time favorite parts in a musical is when i played Lily St. Regis in "Annie," and when I played the role of Jack's mom in the production of "Into the Woods Jr." There are so many roles that I’ve played that the list could go on. I think that being in so many shows and being able to work with many theater companies has really helped me develop better communications skills, speaking in front of crowds, and being able to work with others. I highly recommend going out for at least one show through your life! It truly is a great experience.
Now moving on to some of my favorite things, my absolute top three things I love to do are: going on Pinterest, listening to music, and practicing photography. The one thing that I love about Pinterest, is that I can go on there and get so much inspiration for ideas that I might have. My Pinterest absolutely gives me the most inspiration for fashion! That's mostly what I've been making my Pinterest about recently. Well, I guarantee it’s no big surprise that I'm in love with music, since I am a musical theater kid. Music is something that let’s me escape the real world. Normally, the type of music that helps me do that is musical theater tunes. I think this genre does the trick for me because all musicals have a story behind them, so I always love to imagine myself being on stage performing those songs. Photography has been a great new hobby for myself that I have picked up on at the end of my senior year in high school, and since then I have built my own photography website and have done several great photo shoots. There's nothing better than pulling the camera away from your eyes, looking down at the preview screen and saying, "OMG yes!" or in other terms, "I've got the shot!" I am a self taught photographer who is still learning everyday, and I am always looking for new faces to photograph!
I hope by sharing some facts about me, it will help us get to know each other better throughout this year. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask me.
Sincerely,
Jess
