A Letter To My Parents On Raising Me

Parents do so much for their kids, but ask for almost nothing in return.

A Letter To My Parents On Raising Me

I know it wasn’t easy, and I know that it required a lot of dedication. You worked endless hours just to make sure I had enough, and to make sure I could do all of the amazing things I have done so far. You as a parent don’t get to choose how exactly we turn out, but you do get to influence it as much as possible.

Thank you for raising me the way you did. I wasn’t an easy child, but I also know I wasn’t the most difficult. However, through the ups and downs, you kept going and got me to where I am now. There are many things I do each day that I wouldn’t do if I was raised differently. For instance, holding the door when someone is coming in behind me… You could have taught me to just let it shut, but you didn’t. You have raised me to give and recognize respect, and to always apologize if I’ve done something wrong. You have taught me that you can’t always have your way (no matter how bad you want it), and to accept the word “no.”

I admire the things I have learned from you, Mom and Dad. You have shown me that love has no limits, and no matter how great it is, you will still have to work for it. Similarly in life, you do so many great things within a lifetime, but you have to work for them. Thank you for raising me with that mindset. You taught me when I was young that everyone has feelings, and you need to be careful with those feelings. You taught me that everyone you meet has a different struggle, and you also taught me to help those people deal with even the smallest parts of those struggles. You have taught me to recognize compassion, and with that, I have become a very compassionate person.

As parents, you deserve more thanks than I could give in a lifetime. You deserve thanks for all the diapers you’ve changed, all the cuts you’ve bandaged and all the tears you’ve wiped away. And with that, you deserve to know that I am thankful for you each and every day. You have taught me that this world is delicate, like sugar. It can crumble so easily, but you should never be afraid to stick your tongue out and taste it. You have given up many aspects of your life in order to help me thrive in mine, and have expected nothing in return (except maybe a hug or two).

I am so lucky to have been raised by you, and I could never ask for better parents. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for me, and always remember that I love you.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
