An Open Letter To 'My Person'

Although we're hundreds of miles apart, you'll always be my person.

An Open Letter To 'My Person'
Nina Hebrank

Growing up with a best friend like you made me the person I am today.

I can honestly say I wouldn't be the fun, spongebob-loving, pizza-eating, crazy woman I am if I hadn't met you. You make me a better person, and I am a better person when I'm with you.

If I hadn't met you, I can imagine that I would definitely care more about what people thought of me. You've shown me that it shouldn't matter. As long as you like you, other people should too.

You are so different from any other friend I've ever met. Maybe it could be that you eat my house of all of its food, laugh at all my jokes even when they're not funny, or even just make an extra effort to reach out to me when I'm having a tough week. It could be choreographing all the Britney Spears songs in my iPod or those gross homemade videos on my Mac. I always look back on those times and smile because I can honestly say those were the best times of my childhood.

One thing I particularly admire about you is that you're so independent. I wish I could feel half as independent as you are. You're so strong and intelligent...AND HUMBLE. I honestly have never met anyone who is as humble as you.

Over the years, we have grown up together and stuck with each other through thick and thin. There have been times we've both wanted to give up, but never could. I couldn't because I couldn't imagine my world without you in it.

Being mistaken as your sister was one of the proudest moments of my life. I mean, we basically were sisters and could be mistaken easily for them. We looked alike, talked alike, and were alike in so many ways I've lost count.

You are the bright sun peaking through the gray clouds. Every text or snapchat I get from you makes me smile because it's either one of our numerous inside jokes or just a dumb little thought you'd thought would make me laugh.

You've really grown up. We were so awkward and gross in 6th grade and now you're definitely the most beautiful person I've ever laid my eyes on. I was looking at some pictures of us on vacation in 7th grade and couldn't even recognize you! I love seeing how college is treating you and all the friends you've made. I can't wait to meet them.

Together, we have done so much. We were like frick and frack, Beavis and Butthead, Spongebob and Patrick. There is no one I'd rather have had by my side through it all. I love you so much.

I think about you everyday and mention our crazy adventures daily. So know that you're loved and I can't wait to see you soon.

Love,

Ninster

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
