A Letter To My Future Niece Or Nephew

Dear Future niece or nephew,

Let me just start by saying... I AM SO EXCITED TO MEET YOU!! I can't wait to hold you, I can't wait to make you giggle, I can't wait to see that little smile, I can't wait to rock you to sleep, I can't wait to bounce you on my lap, I can't wait to hear your little cooing voice. I can't wait...

Now, I'll be honest with you....I have absolutely no idea how to be an aunt. BUT, I have amazing examples to follow, so I think I'll be alright! The one thing you can count on is that I'll always try my hardest to be the best aunt I can be for you.

I promise to be the best "Fun Aunt" you'll ever know. I'll teach you how to dance as soon as you can walk. When you get older I'll teach you how to stay up till one in the morning playing Xbox. I'll teach you how to ride roller coasters until we both get sick. I'll teach you how to beatbox so your friends think your cool. I'll teach you how to use European accents so you can prank strangers. I'll even teach you my secret recipe of how to freeze your peanut butter and honey sandwiches so they're crunchy (I swear it's delicious).

But more importantly, I promise to love you with every part of my heart.

I promise to be the shoulder that you can always go to cry on (if you're a boy, don't worry, I can work with manly tears). I will always be there to watch out for you and help you get out of jams, no matter how bad the situation. Whenever you need advice, my door is always open. Whenever you need snacks, my pantry door is too.

If you ever need someone to just listen when you need a moment to vent, I'm there (especially if it's about your parents!). Or if you ever need that oh-so-wonderful relationship advice, you can learn from my mistakes. And I will cheer you on in school, in life, and apparently in soccer (if your father has his way....oh dear). Even if I live far away, I'm never too far to be there for you.

All that considered, one thing you must know is that you are surrounded by many many people who love you and care about you and cherish you, and just know that without a doubt....I am one of those people.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
