An Open Letter To My Loving Parents

Growing older just leads to growing appreciation

An Open Letter To My Loving Parents
Chyna Lynner

Mom and Dad,

As I grow older (and old being 21), I’ve come to realize the true importance of my family, how special you are to me, and just how much I admire so many things that you do!

Mom, you are feisty, strong in your beliefs and morals, hard-working, have a beautiful relationship with your faith, enjoy giving gifts more than anyone I know, beautiful, a healthy eater, devoted to trying to help those you care about, always up for new things, upbeat, appreciative of the little things, and so, so, so much more.

Dad, you are patient, yet stubborn, strong in your beliefs, hard-working, can remember any movie quote from any movie, have wonderful taste in music, strong in your faith, enjoy good quality food and lunch dates (which are my favorite), and so, so, much more.

With having you two as my parents, you have both modeled so many qualities that I someday hope to possess and carry out throughout my life.

It’s as I grow older that I realize just how much you have done for me, how all-knowing you guys really are (even though as a teenager I thought I always had you fooled), and just how much you care about me and what my life has to hold.

It is also with time that I have realized just how precious time with you guys truly is. It is the late night walks, Netflix watching, dinner dates, and short trips to Fargo that I have come to love and appreciate more than anything. I enjoy sitting at the dinner table and talking about our days, discussing politics, spending time discussing how perfect our miniature pinscher is, and updating each other on things we have learned or discovered.

With the time that we spend together, means there is also a lot of time that we can’t spend together, while I'm at college.

During this period of time I enjoy both the short and long phone calls, the Snapchats we share, the Instagram posts we tag each other in, and the texts we send back and forth.

Moral of the story is that I feel so blessed to be so close with the two people that have known me the longest, who would do anything for me, and who are the role models of my life.

Therefore, I want to say thank you Mom and Dad. You have given me so much more in life than I could ever ask for. Despite our disagreements, the relationship that we hold is one that I could only describe with the term “best friends.” I am so beyond lucky to have both of you in my life. You both care so much, are able to have so much fun, model so much love, work so hard, make tough circumstances look easy, and have so much faith in God. Words cannot express how happy and humbled I am to call you two, not only my Mom and Dad, but also my role models, and most importantly my best friends.

Thank you for all you have done, do, and will do for me! You are truly the greatest blessing a girl could ever ask for.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
