A Letter To My Lorelai Gilmore
@lorelai_gilmore

To my Lorelai Gilmore,

First things first, thank you. Thank you for loving me, accepting me, teaching me, laughing with me and at me, and so much more over the years. You’re my right hand, you’re my go to. You know the best places to find a good taco, the old cheesy television shows to make me laugh, and the stories to tell when I need them.

Honestly, you are kind of magical in that Lorelai Gilmore way. You have a way of drawing people in an making them feel welcomed and loved, no matter who they are, whether you realize it or not. You know the way to make a bad day better and great day even more so. You are outgoing, loving, incredibly caring, and crazy in the best way.

From surviving horrible teachers, to the stress of college applications, and first year college blues you have been a rockstar. You are endlessly supportive and equally hilarious. You have mastered the balance of giving advice and teaching me the importance of taking an “L”. After all, those losses make for some of the best funnies. You support my weird eating habits and encourage my obsession with old television shows.

You have helped teach me the importance of friendships, the life long ones and the unexpected ones. Someone you have known only a little while can mean the world to you. While lifelong friends are sometimes the ones you have to let go, and that is okay. You have also set the standards on relationships. It’s okay to be single, and it is okay to enjoy it. Sometimes you just have to wait it out for your Luke to come along and propose in front of the Eiffel Tower. Who knows, maybe I’ll find my Jess or Logan along the way.

Most of all though, thank you for accepting and loving me. Thank you for taking me under your wing and making me feel like I belong. Thank you for sharing my love of cheesy movies, bad jokes, sarcasm, and a good book. Thank you for teaching me about poetry and grammar, as well as the importance of being myself and musicals. You are the Lorelai to my Rory in every way, and for that I could not be more grateful

With all the love and admiration in the world,

Your Rory Gilmore

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
