A Letter To My Guy Best Friends

I cannot express how grateful I was for having you around when life wasn’t so fair.

A Letter To My Guy Best Friends

Dear Guy Best Friends,

Typically, I'm not the sappy heartfelt type of person. However, I have a lot I need to thank you for. I need to express the gratitude for all that you have done. Becoming friends with you has changed my life in the most positive way.

Thank you for being protective. Instead of hearing “you need to get over him,” you’re the first person to willingly beat him up. Thank you for letting me vent about all the ways he hurt me or did me wrong. Thank you for bringing Sweedish Fish to my house after he ruined my night. Most importantly, thank you for making me believe that I deserved better. Thank you for not letting me settle for anything less. Your advice might hurt or come off harsh, but it's because you have my best interest in mind. I appreciate that you don't sugarcoat situations. I can always count on you for your honesty.

Thank you for being my date to all those formal events I didn’t want to attend alone. Thank you for going to all the family events as well. Thank you for being patient while they took a million photos of us at every event. Thank you for not treating me differently because I’m a girl. You don’t care if I have sweatpants on and no makeup. Thank you for teaching me how to change a tire. Thank you for taking me mudding with you. No one taught me how to shotgun a beer quite like you did. Thank you for listening to my girl drama. Thank you for putting up with my sassiness.

Our friends are always bothering us about how “we lead each other on” or flirt with one another. We truly know that it's never felt like that. I view you as my brother. The brother that has always supported, protected and cared for me. There has been a level of respect and understanding that many others do not understand.

I cannot express how grateful I was for having you around when life wasn’t so fair. When loved ones passed away, when we made some mistakes, or when school became too much to handle. When it felt like life was crashing down. Thank you for letting me call you at 2:00 a.m. Thank you for all the late night food trips. Thank you for letting me cry. Thank you for making me forget what made me upset in the first place. Thank you for accepting me at my absolute worst. Thank you for always sticking by my side.

We highly value one another's opinion. We communicate openly and tell each other everything. You always know what to say. You have always given the best advice. I appreciate your perspective on different things. Seeing a perspective from a male's view is crucial. It has taught me to think about certain things differently. Your male brain has taught me why guys say or do certain things that girls would never understand.

Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for always motivating me to become the best version of myself. You genuinely want to see me become successful. For all the days I freaked out and thought I couldn’t finish school, you were my biggest fan. You motivated me to keep going. Thank you for always supporting my dreams. Thank you for being proud of me.

Sincerely,

Your Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
