Letter To My GBFF
Libby Lassetter

To my GBFF,

First off, I want to say thank you. Thank you for putting up with my crap, no matter what the crap might have been. From calling you at 3 a.m. to listen to me whine or driving 600 miles to a college interview, you are always there. Our friendship has become something I can always go back to and enjoy no matter how much time has passed or how far apart we might be.

Thank you for always allowing me to rely on you. Sometimes it's making me feel good about myself. Other times, it’s exposing my cynical side or just making fun of me in a way I can’t help but laugh at. You have become far more than a friend to me; you’ve become a sort of a safe place for me. Also, thank you for pretending to be my boyfriend during the few times I’ve been hit on by creepy men. You are proof that chivalry is not dead–even if it is only pretend, you still always manage to open all the doors for me.

The most important thing I want to say thank you for is being honest. Surely, I can always count on you to give your unfiltered opinion, even if it's hard to hear. You are always looking out for my best interest, especially when it comes to being honest and letting me know what the best drink is at Starbucks. You always have my back. It was with your help and honesty that I was able to make the right decisions and figure out who I am as a person. It is because of you that I know that, a lot of time, we have to fall before we can improve.

As far as relationships–and when guys come and go in your life–I promise to put your best interest first and give you the best advice possible so I can be as wonderful a friend as you have been to me. I also promise to watch every movie that Melissa McCarthy makes with you because she is your favorite. And you know you can always count on me for a trip to Lush to get bath bombs and face masks!

Although we haven’t known each other for more than a couple years, it feels like it’s been a lifetime. I am beyond blessed to have had the chance to get to know you. It has been an amazing time we’ve had together, hasn't it? I only hope that this friendship will last on into the future. So one day we can look back on all the times we have shared and the memories we have made. And here is to the many more to come!

Love always,

Your best girl friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
