A Letter To My Future Child

A Letter To My Future Child
Nathan Hirsch

Darling,

First things first, I love you. I know sometimes I might not show it, but I love you more always.

Be and love yourself. This world is tough and hard; however, you were born to stick out from the pack. It is always cool to be you, trust me. Don't pick on your flaws, everyone has them. No one is perfect, but you are perfectly you! No one will love you until you can learn to love yourself.

Be nice and work hard. Being nice to people will never go out of style. Neither will working hard. Work ethic is something that was drained in me at a young age and as you will learn too. You can get/become whatever you want in this crazy life just work hard.

Never give up. This world can be a cruel place. People will be discouraging and mean, but never let what someone says/does discourage you from your dream. There will be days where you want to quit but I promise you can do it.

Don't be a negative Nelly. No one wants to be around someone complaining 24/7. Be positive. Life is to short to see the glass half empty all the time. You are going to run into numerous trials and tribulations, but let them help shape you don't let them make you bitter. Things might not always be easy but you can do it and I will be with you every step of the way.

Choosing friends, choose wisely. Good friends might not always be right next to you or with you; however, they will always be there for you. You are not going to be everyone's friend and not everyone will like you - regardless everyone should be treated how you want to be treated. You'll go through ups and downs with friendships, it might suck, but you'll survive. Remember - moms always see a fake friend before you do, always.

Stay in school. I hope you love school as much as I do. From the teachers, to the new school supplies, to constantly learning about new topics and ideas, to meeting and learning about new people. Education is one of the only things that can help you change the world for the better. It is also a key to make you successful.

Save money. Do you really need another pair of shoes? No. Whenever you can put a little in savings. Whether it's a dollar or twenty it all adds up. It might not sound fun - just wait until you go off to college.

Travel often. If your my child you're most likely going to have the travel bug, thank God. Traveling has helped me see the world in a different way. It has helped me see others as if I were standing in their shoes and it also has taught me to not take what I have for granted. Traveling is a gift and wherever you choose to go always remember you are blessed.

Pray. This life will be amazing - even though some days might feel like hell - always pray. Pray about your biggest fears and your biggest blessings. Always thank God for those surrounding and guiding you. Prayer works wonders. When in doubt give it too God.

You are not alone - never forget that. You are so loved. Even though I won't be able to protect you from everything this world has in store for you I will try my best to be there for you every step of the way. I will support you in your endeavors and help you on your weakest days.I love you more first.

Your Mom,

Hannah

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
