Dear Younger Me

A Letter to Myself in Elementary School

Dear Younger Me

Dear Elementary School Me,

I know things are hard now, but it will get easier. Life is tough and there will be many challenges throughout your life. You need to make sure you live everyday to the fullest and never take life for granted. Once you grow up, life will only get harder, but you have some amazing friends by your side to help you through the bad times that will happen.

Everyone has bad times at least once in their life. The best way to get through a bad time is to surround yourself with some good friends. All of my friends are younger than me, but they do give some good advice. Once I found the right group of friends, I knew that I would never have to be sad another day of my life.

I know that if I am ever having a bad day all I have to do is call up my best friend and tell her what is going on. She knows everything about me. My best advice is to find at least one person that you can call your "best friend" and tell everything too. Once you find that person you will be so much happier because you know you have someone you can talk to even if they live far away.

My move to college was the hardest thing I ever did! I had to move away from all of my friends, family, and everything familiar to me. Granted I am only 45 minutes away from home, but on some days 45 minutes seems like a life time. There are days when I wonder if I can still do this whole college thing, so I call up my best friend in tears and she talks me down. She reminds me the real reason I am here. The only reason I am at this is because of God's grace and how amazing He is to me. I tend to forget this in these moments of crisis and my best friend is always there to remind me of why I am here. If it was not for her I would not have made it this far. I would not be the person I am today without my best friend, God, and my mom.

My mom is my superhero. She has been my number one fan since day one. Life would not be the same without her in it. I honestly do not know what I would do without her there to support me in everything I do. I decided to audition for the play this year at school. She supported me 100% even though she knew it meant we could not spend as much time together on her day off. My mom is my rock and without her I would not be at Spring Hill accomplishing my dreams. If she had not pushed me throughout school I would not have gotten into this prestigious school or accomplished anything that has happened to me in the past year. I have come through so much.

All you have to remember when you get older is that when life gets tough, you don't need to give up. If you ever feel like giving up just remember that mom is always there for you, and so are your friends, even if you think they aren't. I don't know what I would have done without my mom and my friends in my life. Just make sure you make some good friends and keep them close always! Do well in school and stay happy!

Sincerely,

Future You

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
