A Letter To My Furry Friend At Home

If you have ever seen my Instagram or talked to me for a total of 10 minutes, you have heard about my poodle, Beau. Why? Because apart from the whole “being a dog” thing, I pretty much think he is my child. We talk, we play, we growl at the same people, and we occasionally match outfits on holidays and days that I can find nothing else to do. He’s my best friend. However, upon moving to college I realized that the Bex and Beau Show would be no more. With pet deposits, sorority activities, a job, and school, there was no way we would get time to spend together like he deserves, and ultimately demands. So to my fur baby at home…and to all fur babies that get left behind, this one’s for you.

Beau Beau (or insert pet name here),

First of all, blame Mom. We wouldn’t be in this sitch if she hadn’t forced me to do the whole “college” thing. But hey, this way we can be super luxurious later in life. Next, you may be tempted to befriend someone else, to find a replacement, and I’m going to need you to not. You may be wondering what is happening to all of my leftovers, and occasionally the other half of my cheese stick. But rest assured I would never give another pup what I know is rightfully yours. Also, just because I’m gone doesn’t mean every last pair of shoes I left in my room is free game. I know you miss me, but I miss the laces to my Converses. And with that being said, the only bed you should be sleeping in is your own; unless it’s storming then you have permission to snuggle up in my bed and miss me. I demand a weekly FaceTime date so that I can watch you grow and turn into a little dog-man. Finally, always remember there will never be a poodle for me like you. I’ll be back before you know it. So cheer up Beau Beau! Christmas Break is coming soon!

Xoxo,

Your Best Friend

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
