A Letter To My Freshman Year Roomates/Suite mates

And to think it all started with a sweaty handshake on move-in day.

A Letter To My Freshman Year Roomates/Suite mates

Going to college as a freshman is one of the most amazing, yet scariest things you will ever do. You'll feel every emotion in the book: excitement, fear, anxiety, happiness, nervousness, and everyone's favorite... awkwardness. When you walk into your freshman dorm and meet your roommates and suite mates for what could be the first time, you'll most likely shake their hands with a sweaty palm (like me). But little do you know that that sweaty handshake is going to turn into some of the greatest friendships of your life.

Dear freshman year roommates/suitemates,

Thank you for always making me laugh after a bad day. You always helped me realize that a new day is coming and I don't need to stay in a crummy mood forever. Staying up watching silly YouTube videos is something I'll never forget. Whenever I needed a pick-me-up, you were always there to make me smile and to make stupid jokes that you knew would bring a smile to my face.

Thank you for going on adventures with me and giving up your parking spaces to go off campus. Going downtown to see the Christmas lights, going to the movies and eating (finishing) a tub of popcorn, going shopping, and going ice skating are just some of the trips I remember. Who could forget our coffee runs, too?

Thank you for walking to the dining hall with me on the coldest of winter days. Thanks for understanding my obsession with bacon and how I would get so sad every time it wasn't on the menu that day. I loved eating away our feelings together and always going up for seconds with you. #noshame

Thank you for letting me blast One Direction music through the dorm room and you have never questioned it. I embarrassed myself a lot, but you never made me feel judged.

Thank you for letting me be myself. I know I can be a handful at times, but you were always there for me. Thank you for never giving me the stink-eye when you saw me in my natural habitat. You never made me feel like I needed to be somebody I wasn't. Isn't that what college is all about? Being yourself ... finding yourself? This is why I love you most of all: for helping me grow and find myself. AAAAND for staying quiet while I took naps. Real MVP right there.

Thank you for being my friend when I didn't have anyone else. You were my first friends in college and for that, I'm eternally grateful. Not only were you my first friends, but now you're my forever friends, too. I mean, c'mon, who else would I have rather stayed up until 3 am the night before an exam to watch One Tree Hill marathons and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days with? And who could forget how much ice cream we ate.. oh man.

Last but not least, thank you for being some of my best friends. Freshman year wouldn't have been the same without you. I was so nervous on move-in day that I would get roommates and suite mates that hated me. Thankfully, I got you guys. There is no one else I would have wanted to spend my first year of college with, and now I can't remember what life was like without you guys.

Love,

Your freshman year roommate/suite mate <3

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
