Hey Chloe,
I don’t want you to miss me too much while I’m gone, there are still many people at home who love you. I’ll be home every few weeks. I have not gone very far—I am at this place called college, specifically Penn State. It’s a lot of fun. I share my room with my best friend, just like you shared my bed with me every night. I hope you find the smelly little boy of the family a good bed-mate while I’m away.
The food here is also pretty good. I hope that the rest of the family sneaks you some yummy treats like I always did. I’ll be sure to make you your favorite treats whenever I am home. Penn State is also a very big school so I do lots of walking. You would love going on walks around campus. Whenever I see other dogs on campus I always wish you could be here with me. You would also LOVE all the squirrels! They are so friendly you might even be able to catch one here.
Being away from you is hard, I’m sure you feel the same. When I FaceTime home I always ask Mom and Dad to put you on the screen so I can talk to you, but I’m not sure you fully understand. I miss you a lot and I love receiving pictures of you from the family. Some nights it can be tough not being with you. I miss my furry best friend! You always know when I am sad and you know just want to do to cheer me up. I miss curling up in a big blanket on the couch and watching our favorite show on Netflix, "Parks and Rec." Hey, speaking of the couch, does Dad let you up there more often? I know I always loved sneaking you on the couch.
One thing that I never thought I would say is that it’s sad not having Chloe hair coating all of my clothes. At home, I thought it would never go away due to your incessant shedding, however since I’ve been at school I don’t find much anymore. Every once in a while I will discover a piece stuck to an old sweater and I think of you with a smile.
It was your birthday a few days ago; you are seven now! You are getting so old. I remember going to pick you out when I was in sixth grade, you were such a little girl. Now you are all grown up. I hope your arthritis hasn’t been as bothersome recently, I’m sure you are still enjoying your naps in those big warm sunbeams.
I just wanted to write you this letter to let you know I’m not gone forever. I’ll be home again soon for Thanksgiving break, which is not too much longer now. We can rake up the red, orange, and yellow leaves and run through the big colorful piles when I get back. Being a college student has its difficulties and one of the things that’s helping me keep it together is the thought of you waiting for me when I walk through the front door. I can’t wait to come home and give you a big hug. Love you Shlo-bo.
With love,
Your Best Friend
