Having our own Clocks

Time is ticking and the clock only seems to be moving faster. You flew through elementary school, through middle and high school, through sports, through clothes as you grew taller, through relationships/friendships and now you’re flying through college. To make matters worse, everyone around you seems to be moving at a good pace. They’ve figured out what they wanted to do with their lives upon graduation, they’re engaged or already married, they have a Plan A, B and C and are accomplishing things left and right that haven’t even crossed your mind. It causes anxiety on top of the anxiety and you think to yourself “Great, just what I needed, more stress”.It seems like everybody else has their life figured out and you’re being left in the dust to pick up any extra pieces.

Am I right?

Luckily, I’m here to tell you to take a deep breath and to realize that everybody has their own clock with their own timing.

Everybody has been in the position that you are. Some of those people that seem to have their life together are probably still in that same spot, they’re just good at putting on a smiling face for the world to see. Nobody expects you to be like everyone else so you shouldn’t expect that either. God gives you perfect timing for everything that happens in this crazy life. All of those things that you’re trying to focus on and trying to accomplish WILL happen but they will be on YOUR time. Enjoy this life before it comes to a halt and stop wasting your time worrying about whether you’re where you need to be at because I can promise you that you are. Let go and Let God. He’ll take you down all of the right paths if you just let him in control and stop trying to speed things up faster than they’re meant to go. You’ll graduate, even if it’s after becoming a super, super, super senior. You’ll land the career you want or you’ll change your mind 10 times until you find the one that fits you best. You’ll find the relationship and friendships you’ve dreamed about for so long and those people will be with you for the lifetime you have left. You’ll get the physical and mental health that you want but only after you learn to take a few steps at a time and follow your own path instead of focusing on everybody else’s. Most importantly, when you slow down and accept your timing, you’ll start to fall more in love with the person you’ve become and how much you’ve already accomplished thus far.

So, before you start to overthink and stress about where you’re at in life, think about how far you’ve come and thank God for all of the many blessings you’ve already encountered.Thank him for the clock he’s given you and stop wasting your precious time. Who cares where everyone else is at, just focus on you. Stop stressing about someone else’s physical appearance and eat that extra piece of cake, stop worrying about how many times you’ve gone out and go to that party every weekend, stop focusing on “finding your soul mate” and kiss that person who you can’t stop thinking about and take that extra credit hour even if it has nothing to do with your major. Make yourself happy and let everything fall into place the way it’s supposed to. You’ll live an extra happy life just accepting the way your life is working out and I promise it’ll be everything you have expected and more.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
