A Letter To My Best Of Friends

You are so important to me.

A Letter To My Best Of Friends
Sarah Carstensen

I am blessed to have friends who love me for me, who encourage me, make me laugh and who are always there — like, always.

I guess you can say I have two very special, sister-like friends. I have Hannah and Karis, and we are all practically joined at the hip. Our friendship began to flourish the summer of 2012. I was going to be a sophomore, Karis a freshman and Hannah an eighth grader. Now four years later, Karis and I are in college, and Hannah is a senior in high school! It is crazy to think how much has happened in four years. We have had our fair share of fights, arguments, laughs and challenges. This has all turned into a strong bond that cannot be broken. We have great memories together. For example, my favorite memories with you two are all the times we spend riding around talking, eating spicy chicken and gummy bears and singing anything from Grease, Hannah Montana, High School Musical, as well as country, rap and Christian (I think it takes talent to do all that). Karis and Hannah you two light up my world! It would be very fitting to say I would be lost without you.

Hannah, you bring so much joy into our house and into my life. I love getting random phone calls from you just because you wanted to say "I love you." I love listening to you pour your heart out about something you are passionate about. I love you sharing your concerns and worries with me. I love being able to share my thoughts and concerns with you as well. You push me out of my shell, and you definitely keep me on my toes! I hope you know I truly value our friendship. This is just the beginning of all the crazy things we will do throughout our lifetime. You are a blessing sent from our awesome God, and I thank Him every day for you!

Karis, you are the best “built-in best friend” a girl can ask for! Being your sister along with best friend has not always been the easiest situation, but somehow we have made it this far without pulling each other’s hair out! Your companionship is something I am very thankful for. I love having my sister around, and I love doing new things with you. You fill my heart with joy and laughter. You are always able to be yourself and always put a smile on everyone’s face around you. God certainly knew what He was doing when He made us earthly sisters, as well as sisters in Christ. I love you so much!

Girls, I love you both so very much. I hope you never forget that. I truly hope our plans of living in the same town as neighbors will work out! We all know Mom wants it to work out too so she can float in our lazy river in our backyards. Friends are truly a blessing from God, and for that, I am forever grateful! I love you!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
