Dear Mom No. 2,
I would like to begin by saying that your kid is super important, like seriously. Without your child, I would have just blew through life bumping into random objects in a heavy state of confusion, more than likely. But thanks to her, I’ve had someone I can confide in, trust, laugh and cry with and lastly, someone I can love.
With the friendship of your daughter came protection and love from you. You are so appreciated, and I hope you know that. You have become a presence of comfort and trust in my life, and someone I have come to acknowledge as family.
As far as I am concerned, all of your children are like siblings to me, and I would do anything for any one of them. You have been a figure in my life that is not recognized as often as I would like. I want to thank you for guiding your daughter and me through trying times and choppy waters. I would like to thank you for listening to our crazy tales of youth as we settled onto your couch after a long summer day. I would like to thank you for supporting not only me, but my entire family when a real life nightmare was realized.
I appreciate you being an extra set of eyes watching over me as I grew and sometimes made questionable decisions. Thank you for gossiping over petty high school drama, and listening as I vented about scandalous relationships. Thank you for letting me walk into your home like I live there, and for making sure that I know I’ll always have a place to go should I need one.
Lastly, thanking you for treating me like another child - like family. Thank you for teaching your children what it means to love those that are not blood, and thank you for being the periodical comic relief in my life. You are a strong, resilient woman who serves as an inspiration to me in more than one way. No matter how much time goes by, no matter how little we may actually see each other, just know that you get a piece of my prayers each day.
With love,
The kid who considers herself your kid.
