A Short, But Sweet, Thank You To The Girls I Am Proud To Call My Best Friends

To my hometown best friends,

Simply put, thank you. I know that will never be enough, but that is the easiest way to express my gratitude and overall love for you guys. I know it is cliché but thank you for being you. Thank you for listening to my rants. Thank you for encouraging me to make the right decisions with my future. For many years, we have watched each other grow up, acted carelessly, enjoying the times together, acting completely stupid, and not caring what others said about us. You have taught me to be the person who I am.

We all have been through, what seems like a lifetime, of hard times. I am lucky enough to have you by my side in all of it. No matter the day or time, you were always there to make me laugh, cheer me up, or tell me what direction to walk in. Thank you for getting me out of the house and making sure I have fun when it seems like my life is falling apart. It means the world to me that I can look to you as a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen.

I know we do not call each other best friends because we are way more than that. You never fail to tell me when I am acting stupid or when I am complaining about something completely dumb. You make me a better person, and I do not know many others who can do that. I want to be a better version of myself because you motivate me to do so. You point out what I can improve on, which I am greatly appreciative of, without bringing me down. Because of you, I strive to be best that I can possibly be.

Although the college has drawn has miles and miles apart, I know I can always count on you to be there for me. The distance has helped us grow closer together if that is even possible. Our bond and friendship have become stronger than ever before. I am so happy to maintain what we have these past two years. Not everyone can say that they are still close to the friends they had before college.

If I write out every reason as to why I am lucky to have you in my life, we would be here forever. So, I will keep it as simple as possible. I know that no matter where we go in life, I can always count on you. Thank you for all that you do for me. I cannot wait to see what our future holds and to have each other by our sides.

Love you with all of my heart,

Han

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
