To my best friend, Carolyn:
By the time you will read this, you will finally be 21! So first off, wooo!!! You are my best friend in college. So again, woo!! You are not only my best friend, but also a very understanding, chill, funny and smart individual.
You are my person and partner in crime! You are my bgirl in breaking and teammate in soccer! I can always count on you to be there for me. You have helped me through some lows and have been there for some highs. You are thoughtful and caring towards not only me but also towards others. You would go out of your way to make those in your life smile. You've taught me that no matter how many bad people life throws at you, as long as you find one good one, that's all you need.
Before I met you, it was rough. My life tends to be a roller coast. Freshman year I had some pretty bad lows. Before I met you, it was me against the world. I wouldn't always admit it but there have been times where I honestly felt lost. First couple semesters of college can be hard not only academically but also socially.
As you know, a majority of people I met the freshman year did not have the same vibe as me. The friends I did make in the beginning had also left. Whether it was drama, going separate ways or switching schools, I ended up not being close to them anymore. Freshman year also consisted of a lot of 8am classes. You've come to realize any class before 11am, will consist of me snoozing my alarm to no end and most likely not showing up on time. Ironically though, an 8am class is where we met.
We were in a communications class that started at 8am sharp. You were always on time to class while I would show up roughly around 8:30am. When we were assigned a project together that's when we started really talking. That is also when I started showing up on time. Due to my attendance record, I remember how nervous you were thinking I'd miss that presentation day. Thankfully I made it on time! At the end of that semester, we decided to be roommates!
Since we have been roommates, college has been an interesting experience. We have many inside jokes that are so funny but probably shouldn't be in writing. For about 3 years now, we have been friends! You have put up with my upbeat and crazy alarm clock ringtones. You have encouraged me to keep at it with schoolwork and you still love me regardless of my alarm. You introduced me to breaking and Vietnamese food. Our weekends consist of not moving from the couch and binge watching shows (TVD, Greys, Blackish, modern family, etc). When we do go out on weekends, we tend to have fun nights. There have also been nights we look back at now and just laugh about.
So thank you for being my best friend!
Love,
Amanda
